I have been working at Unum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have never seen a company focus so heavily on their people both in their purpose, practice and dialogue. This company has truly made profound shifts across the last 5 years to be more customer oriented, develop talent from within and be transparent.

    Cons

I encourage the leadership team to consider other options instead of outsourcing. We also really need to make more meaningful progress in our IT efforts.

    I worked at Unum full-time

    Pros

I was able to move up at my own pace. I started in the home office and ended my tenure at a sales office. They treat you well and benefits and pay are competitive.

    Cons

Unum is a publicly traded company so change is a constant. If you don't like change it might not be a good fit.

    Advice to Management

There are managers who micro-manage and do them I would advice not to do that. But every manager I had at Unum was superb and allowed me to excel at my own pace.

I have been working at Unum full-time

    Pros

Strong, healthy company with great benefits. Strong support, dynamic work environment. It really is a great place to work. Wide range of opportunities to help you grow your career.

    Cons

Bureaucratic job progression. You have to know people to advance appropriately, otherwise you're going up one step at a time. They also have this idea that you must stay within a position for a year and a half before you are able to progress, unless of course you know someone special. Lower salaries than industry average.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more opportunities to diversify their resume portfolios by providing them with different skills and knowledge to allow them to succeed. For example, if they work in Colonial Life and do not use the Unum Navilink system, train them on it so they will have a more diverse resume when they apply to their next position. Most of the company uses the Navilink system so it would strengthen their chances at growth.

    Cons

I am unable to come up with any specific cons based on my intern experience.
