I have been working at Unum full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My manager was really laid back and transparent with expectations for me. Felt I could talk with her about anything.

Laid back work for the most part.

Many company and department-wide team-building events

    Cons

Since the company is doing badly in the market, they are cutting key roles for outsourcing in order to save money and superficially boost EPS... Seems it will backfire.

Moving up in the company takes way too long. Will need to stay in a lesser role for almost years to even be considered for a promotion

Good company to start off in, but very iffy on long term staying potential.

Redundant, boring work for the most part in my situation

    Advice to Management

Hire the best people, not the ones that save you the most money for minimal work.

    Pros

The people make the difference. Management really looks for an opportunity to help you achieve your best self.

    Cons

There can be long hours and some separation of goals between sales and operations. The organization is going more towards completely sales focused

    I worked at Unum full-time

    Pros

    - decent compensation (including great PTO, great benefits)
    - paid training
    - nice coworkers
    - job security as long as you're doing a decent job

    Cons

    - lack of mobility within the company
    - work becomes monotonous after a while
    - there's a metric for everything (everything is a priority, which can be very stressful and at times seems very unorganized. if everything is important, nothing is important)
    - the morale of the workers is very low. it's hard to enjoy working somewhere when you know that many are just biding their time before they can quit and move on to something better (to be expected since not many dream of working in insurance)

I worked at Unum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Middle of the road salary wise for IT workers, but the benefits are really good. The pto here can not be matched. bottom of the totem pole IT dev's still got nearly a month. The worklife balance was great. Ability to work remotely. Great campus and location. There are plenty of places in the organization for you to climb or sidegrade to.

    Cons

Frequent objective changes. Sometimes pulled in multiple directions. A lack of defined goals sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Continue to develop the skills that your employees have. Don't change courses so harshly and so often to allow your team to build their brand up.
