    Great teamwork within each unit

    Cons

I worked at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center (More than a year)

    Pros

    There were none at all

    Cons

No room for advancement due to dated mindsets of senior management. HR looks for any reason they can to fire someone. There is tons of favoritism and the middle managers will do almost anything to hold you back from advancing. Overall this was a terrible experience.

    Advice to Management

Fire the middle managers or train them for success. I wouldn't recommend anyone work for this company unless they wanted to be treat like a dog.

    Pros

The holiday rotation is fair. It is possible to accumulate large amounts of of sick time. There are plenty of opportunities for overtime.

    Cons

The workload can sometimes become stressful. Weekends are short-staffed. Lab does not a an effective Lean Flow cell workflow.

    Advice to Management

Management does a good job handling situations within the lab. However the lab is expected to fix all of the problems that come to us from outside the lab and monitor nurses to make sure they collect all of the samples needed for ordered tests. If a nurse does not send a specimen that is needed the lab is held responsible. I wish management would stick up for the lab and hold outside departments and doctor's offices responsible for all of the mistakes and repeated errors they make.

I have been working at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center (More than a year)

    Pros

I like the location because it is close to work. The floors on every unit is well stock with supplies for the patients and supply coffee for everyone

    Cons

Don't pay enough, the nurses are lazy and don't do team work at all. under staff and work short most of the time and bonuses foe people who work overtime and come in too work when you are very short

    Advice to Management

be more pro active with all your staff on the unit and listen to them to make better changes so that is works out for your patients too. More team work also make staff be more accountable for what there duties are to work as one not separate. we are here for the patients not a one man team

I have been working at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center full-time

    Pros

paid time off- holidays, sick, personal, vacation

    Cons

EXTREMELY understaffed especially for techs. low wages. unfair treatment of loyal employees.

    Advice to Management

Too many patients to realistically take care of and recieve decent patient satisfaction scores. Techs recieve less than a livable salary but the work environment is often so stressful that with the pay, and feeling of not being able to provide for the patients well enough, burns you out.

I have been working at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great teamwork, many nurses with loads of experience, great docs/midwives

    Cons

Salary is way too low. Management issues. Employees aren't treated as valued.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees better. Value your nurses more. If we don't feel appreciated and have poor pay....there is little incentive to stay here.
