I have been working at Urban Science (More than a year)

    Pros

There is nothing good about this job, too much gimmick, but inside is all dusty and rusty.

    Cons

It takes forever to get training, they expect you to know a proprietary software without even knowing what to do with it, the management are really old people, and they dont promote creativity, so if you have ideas, keep them to your self. it is more of a data cleansing job then an analyst job, so if you want to cleanse data, then this is the company to apply for.

    Advice to Management

Anyone over 60 years should retire or not be hired, they have had their fair share of life and those who know nothing about IT cannot be a manager that manages IT related applications.

I worked at Urban Science full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Urban Science has a great culture. The Long Beach office has a very tech industry feel to it. No free food, but they have a sleek new upgraded office, and game rooms for relaxing between projects. What makes them great is the people. I have been there for 6 years, and by far everyone who works there is very smart and knowledgeable. This was a great company to start off with, and will be for years to come.

    Cons

    -No free food
-Disconnect between the account management teams, and the IT teams
-Hard to get them adapt to new technologies
-Slow moving at times, and IT loves putting up red tape

I worked at Urban Science full-time

    Pros

    - Maybe pizza in once in a while. If you are relaxed person who wants to work in a very very relaxed environment, it may be for you
    - Gives you a new perspective in your career by thinking you don't wanna be like them, the upper-managers.

    Cons

    - Low market rate salary.
    - Mediocre benefits package
    - Everyone is pretty lazy and has no sense of urgency
    - No real businessman in the upper management (they are all tech background), so they don't know how to run the the company, does not know how to win client engagements, etc. They lose in the most of the times.
    - Totally non-qualified Dev managers and upper managers.
    - No certain criteria in promotion. They promote you if you have a good relationships with the upper management.
    - Work is dry
    - Do not recommend for new college graduates, because you will eventually become really lazy and get used to it, which will give you a bad influence for your future.

    Advice to Management

Get a real business man who can actually run the company and make revenue.

I have been working at Urban Science full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great hours: flexible, and no one works more than 40 hours a week
    - Casual attire: no shorts, but any pants and a t-shirt work just fine. Who can program in a suit?
    - New office space: newly renovated modern office space with foosball table, game room, etc.
    - Young and diverse demographic
    - Executives and higher-ups are very approachable - down to earth culture
    - Much encouragement to explore other internal opportunities

    Cons

    - Very few "cutting-edge" projects - many failed projects are still being kicked further down the road
    - Hardly any philanthropic activities
    - More focused on financial gain than quality products and client satisfaction
    - Interest in work is lacking

I have been working at Urban Science full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Has made an effort to improve employee satisfaction. Built a new office with video game room and very nice view.

    Cons

Has completely missed the boat on compensation. Pay is well under industry standard. They do use outside consultants so there may be improvements soon

I worked at Urban Science full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice co-workers.
Company location close to where I live.
    OK benefits.

    Cons

No career growth opportunities in the ever shrinking PMO.
    Inadequate compensation.
Insecure and incompetent lady bosses in Detroit office.
Most of the people in the higher position have never worked in any other company - newer talents are seen as threats.
Not very engaging or challenging projects.
No value of employees. Only complacent /conformist / submissive personality types can last in this work place.

    Advice to Management

"Confidential" feedback surveys and HR processes are not the tools to identify genuinely dissatisfied employees and a means to proactively get rid of them.
HR should not need to post fake five star reviews on the internet to boost the company image, so that they could hire for the back fill positions on a cheaper rate.

    Pros

    Cool people, decent upper management

    Cons

Work is unsatisfying, no innovation, no room to express personal innovation. More worried about revenues than investment in employees and product potential.

    Pros

Teams are willing to listen and support innovative ideas. People here are multinational, creative and analytic individuals who are great to work with.

    Cons

In general, consulting companies are very elastic and the team you are in now can change drastically depending on cash flow.

    Advice to Management

Urban Science takes pride in having the best in class people, keep up the good work.
