I have been working at Urjanet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Urjanet cares about its employees, which is reflected in the culture and work environment. People in the office are friendly and great to work with; I've never had issues other coworkers. The company takes in a lot of new interns, so there's always new faces in the office. Urjanet is a smaller sized company, so I recommend those who want to work in a fast paced environment. I have learned a lot at my time working...

    Pros

Pay is decent Tech stack is modern Working at a small company, you're expected to touch everything. I learned a lot about cloud infrastructure here that I never got to work with at larger companies. The individual contributors I worked with are (or were, given the exodus) smart, and good to work with.

    Cons

The fatal flaw with Urjanet lies in it's line of business. I won't go into detail here, but they're increasingly running into technical issues with data acquisition that cannot be surmounted. If the company does not pivot, it will perish. Also, management quite simply does not know how to communicate honestly with the rest of the company. You're expected to put in overtime or get accused of working 'Banker's...

    Advice to Management

Pivot now, and pivot hard. You're running out of runway and you know it. Find some courage to be honest with your employees.

I worked at Urjanet full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great mentorship, making this a good first job and a stepping stone to bigger and better opportunities. Interesting product with niche applications all over the place, presenting some cool marketing challenges. You will learn A LOT working here. Everybody seems to wear a lot of hats and you’ll be challenged to excel at things you’ve never done before. Mostly young and fun team. Good collaborative spirit.

    Cons

The leadership has some serious flaws that make Urjanet somewhere great to learn, but terrible to stay for very long. Absentee management among the C level, meaning there’s little to no guidance for major initiatives and projects. Requests for advice or input are often met with indifference or hostility. There’s a “just figure it out!” attitude that doesn’t help the company achieve its goals and can make employees...

    Advice to Management

Stop the personal attacks and constant negativity. If you give your team a little more recognition, breathing room, and positive feedback, I think you’ll be a lot more happy with their performance. You’re sitting on a really great and talented group of people, but nobody can or should withstand constantly being beaten down day-in and day-out, especially when the compensation is way below market average.

I worked at Urjanet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Culture on the engineering side is excellent, people are friendly, and helpful. Little to no office politics to distract you from your work. On the technology side, there's plenty to learn, they use a lot of the latest AWS products; On the business side, depending on which engineering team you're on, you can learn plenty about the domain. Misc pros: - Commute stipend - Free fruits, snacks, and the occasional alcohol...

Poor benefits. Healthcare is a little expensive, and the plan itself is just so so. NO 401K MATCHING! No other benefits to compensate for this either. Pay was low, as compared to other similar sized companies. Raise was lacking. After the first year, I received COL adjustment sort of raise. Next round of raise comes by, I need to fight and intervene and still not get the raise I want. I had to justify my raise over...

I worked at Urjanet full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people who work at Urjanet are some of the best I have personally worked with. There is a sense of family in and out of the office with most every employee working there. There was a concerted effort by one or two employees to have monthly company-wide events to bring everyone together, which I appreciated. The product that Urjanet has created is also something I genuinely believe has potential to go big in the...

    Cons

Leadership at Urjanet, specifically C-suite, is just okay. The executive team constantly has conflicting reports of how the business is doing, where the business is going, and the general outlook of the company. This made it incredibly difficult to do my job. Every month there was a new opinion of the markets we should be selling to, which caused an identity crisis for the company. Because of this, it made it impossible...

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees to do their jobs. You hired them for a reason. Stop stifling innovation and creativity from employees and you may be surprised at what the talent can offer. Treat people with respect, instead of belittling them for errors made...use this as an educational opportunity for employees instead. There needs to be a much bigger focus on recognizing employee's successes rather than weaknesses. Offer career...

    Pros

I worked at Urjanet as a Data Analyst for a little more than 2.5 years and I think it's a great environment to build and refine your technical and business professional skills. Being such a young start-up, there are plenty of opportunities for you to help grow along with the company. Innovation is celebrated, so you don't have to suppress your ideas in order to conform to what Urjanet already has in place. Every one...

    Cons

There is a clear lack of organizational structure. During my short time there they eliminated the CMO role, brought it back, moved Product Director from engineering to marketing, and forced the COO out, gave that job to a project manager only to have it changed to Director of Client Services. There is also a lack in diversity in leadership. Although the CEO is Indian, the rest of the C-Suite executives are white men....

    Advice to Management

    1. Pay employees something close to the industry average. 2. Take time to interact with employees personally outside of the context of work. 3. Step into the 21st Century of small business in America and introduce summer hours, work-from-home days, 401k matching , and/or unlimited PTO . 4. Have a training system set for on-boarding new hires . 5. Always emphasize the "bigger picture" when assigning tasks.

    Pros

Phenomenal work environment and culture. The product is pretty awesome and really helps commercial businesses, but now can also impact the end consumer in a great way as well.

    Cons

They’re still working on a clear cut path and metrics for upward movement, which can be frustrating at times. However, with it being a newer tech company, it comes with the territory.

    Advice to Management
