    Negative Outlook

I worked at Utah Department of Environmental Quality full-time

    Pros

Flexible start time. Little to no management. Easy to do nothing. If you are a masochist, this is the place for you!

    Cons

Always need a scapegoat, rude co-workers (some), driving and going in harsh environmental areas. Trying to figure out the point in what you are doing.

    Advice to Management

It is sad to see a place as important as Air Quality take money from the Industrial sites to not fine them for breaking regulations. And, maybe actually do something about the air.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Utah Department of Environmental Quality full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexible hours, 40 hrs/week, worthwhile endeavor

    Cons

Highly political, management focus is not on science or engineering. Agency is ham-strung by ultra-conservative State legislature. Lip service to environmental groups

    Advice to Management

Find a backbone. Make policy on technical issues quickly & openly to public. Be truly transparent, warts and all. Disclose back door Legislative pressures on permit & enforcement actions.

I have been working at Utah Department of Environmental Quality

    Pros

As the regulatory gateway for environmental permits, companies of all sizes and industries must pass through the permitting process. This gives you access to these companies.

    Cons

They treat you like a little child. Step out of line and revenge is swift. No professionalism whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

You don't know everything. Why not listen instead of lecture? Maybe you could spend less time giving yourself a pat on the back and more time asking questions.
