I have been working at Utah Retirement Systems full-time

    Pros

Positive and friendly work environment. Relaxed work environment most of the time. Free time to exercise. Great co-workers. No micro managers. Tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Slower pace most of the time. Government worker mentality with those that have been here more than 10 years. Lots of BYU fans. Not a lot of upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Metrics are good but sometimes measuring too much data takes away employee motivation. Focus more on the employee experience than monthly numbers.

I have been working at Utah Retirement Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

URS has a great culture. The URS administration is fully believes in the 5 URS Values: Trust, Commitment, Value, Innovation, and Excellence, which in turn creates such a wonderful environment to work in. URS is committed to their employees, members, and stakeholders to ensure a quality retirement product is provided.

    Cons

Due to the positive morale within URS, it is more difficult to promote within the organization because few people leave.

I have been working at Utah Retirement Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

almost everyone here in every building and every floor is friendly, smiling, courteous, welcoming, helpful etc.

    Cons

They encourage exercise! and eating healthy! and have programs to assist you in doing it! They make it hard to hate it

    Advice to Management

workshops on departments to have everyone learn a small part of what others do so that we can be a more cohesive overall team. If we have a general idea of how the whole machine operates we can feel like our little piece is a necessary part.

I have been working at Utah Retirement Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are amazing benefits. The team that you work with is very cohesive and the work that I do feels like it truly makes a difference. There is an open door policy and I have access to great medical directors and the CEO. It is great to be able to leave work at work and have the family time that is so valued throughout the company. Very low turnover rate.

    Cons

Pay is not as high as some insurance companies, but the pros outweigh that.

    Pros

    -Amazing exposure to deal-flow/transactions/industry personnel.
-Lots of responsibility placed on your shoulders from day 1.
-Great team culture of collaboration, investing time and effort in developing junior personnel, and heavy discussions/application of investment stratagem.
-On the job training of underwriting/valuation, sector expertise.
-Great management, really take the time to develop you and consider it their goal to do so.

    Cons

-Travel can get hectic at times but is rewarding as you get to take part in amazing deal-flow/due diligence , and meet top industry personnel.

    Advice to Management

URS has continued to do well in terms of creating a structure that allows investment professionals to stay here for many years and continue growing in terms of responsibility, compensation, and autonomy. I would suggest that you continue to do so.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Utah Retirement Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I do work for a direct manager that cares & has my back

    Cons

Director of my department has no people skills, cannot lead . Hires and creates positions for suck up with outrageous pay over dedicated employees already doing the job. Refuses to go to bat for employees already here working to get us fair wages. No room for advancement for the regular Joes. You will be thrown under the bus and stabbed in the back by this person & coat tail riders. It trickles down. Moral is low. If you want to be tied to your desk & not feel free to talk to your co-workers & associate then this job is right for you. Only the strong survive. You will burn out quick. Be ready to start taking anxiety medication because if you don't have it, just wait you will.

    Advice to Management

For URS director, get more involved with the little people that matter and produce for you. We are the ones that keep this company afloat. We are the fiduciaries for you. We represent URS. We are NOT happy. We are NOT paid well. You all sit so high & see green grass & get paid well. Handy tip, last year our COLA was 1.9% not even 2% like the previous year. However, the actual cost of living increase to the median Utah household was 17%. A 1.9% COLA to us might be a couple hundred extra dollars a year but to you Mr. Andersen it's a new Acura. No disrespect just food for thought!
