I have been working at V1 full-time for less than a year

    Pros

This company has a very interesting structure in place to be able to develop it's own tools that support the remote workforce for it's own use while working on consulting-type partner projects. The tools we are working on are used to help facilitate our team, which is 100% remote. Tools for remote teams are currently scarce, as much of the development world still requires employees to report to an office on a regular...

    Cons

This is a young team, so there is effort going toward figuring out process and understanding how the team works together. We constantly strive to improve, but are sometimes stretched a little thin due to the start-up nature of the team. This is sometimes the double-edged sword that comes with being part of a start-up - some people crave this culture of having influence on process and priorities, but others find it stressful....

    Advice to Management

Continue hiring great people to take on the senior-level roles in the company so you can focus on continuing to build the business.

      I have been working at V1 full-time

      Pros

      • Remote environment allows for great work/life balance • CEO trusts you to make decisions and move forward with what you think is best • Ability to manage/direct yourself - CEO does not micromanage. • Everyday is different, so the job is never boring • Ability to develop your own projects and ideas to help propel the company’s growth • All employees are extremely competent and friendly. Their level of competency...

      Cons

      • Not really a con (unless you are a complete mooch), but don’t expect a free ride. If you want to just sit back, do nothing, and wait for a paycheck, then you better look elsewhere. The entire team is dedicated to the vision and mission of V1 and we all work for it and towards it together.

I worked at V1 full-time for less than a year

      Pros

      - Challenging and Interesting Projects - Worldwide team of kind, hardworking, and talented co-workers - Management is willing to allow the engineers to break things in service of making a better product - Given complete ownership over projects - Expectations are clear and require confirmation Overall I greatly enjoyed my time at V1. It was a constant challenge and I have nothing but praise for the team there.

      Cons

      - Turnover is an issue that at the time that I left was being addressed. - There is a distinct lack of support especially for less experienced developers. - Less flexible workweek than it appears and it is hard to balance work/life if you have not worked remotely.

      Advice to Management

I would recommend a way to track support given by teammates as valuable contributions to work. Though not a huge issue that I've seen pop up often, currently helping each other is somewhat disincentivized.

I worked at V1 for less than a year

      Pros

*the model is something I've never seen before and allows employees flexibility to work from wherever. you set your own goals and hold yourself accountable (I am self-driven so that's a plus.) *the work that comes from team collaboration is high quality —the journalists and researchers are whip-smart— & CEO encourages whole team to tackle ambitious goals. *coming from a consulting background, I like that V1 tackles big...

*take a bigger breather between projects *improve support systems for the community

      I worked at V1 full-time

      Pros

Remote - the employees are good to work with

      Cons

It churns like butter- the turn over rate is awful. You are in for a bit (3 mos) then you are pushed out. Pushed out mainly due to needing a break from being overworked. The CEO is awful to work with, demanding, micro-managing and is horrible with people. He takes other peoples ideas, modifies them slightly so they don't know then tries to use it as his own. Beware of the honeymoon stage with the CEO, it is just an act.

      Advice to Management

Find someone else to run the company or at least deal with people.

Everything in this role after you start fulltime is a Con Please notice all the "positive" comments from the 17th of January.
