I have been working at VCU Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Genuine Safety culture. Reasonable compensation and benefits.

    Cons

Limited long-term growth. Poorly maintained secret "if you want to advance significantly, you have to leave and then come back."

    Advice to Management

Improve communication between leaders. Focus on teaching the value-add of noncompetitive and transparent strategic planning and operational improvement efforts. Reduce resource waste by removing barriers for collaboration. Do a better job of matching the right person to the right job.

I have been working at VCU Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best thing is the People and ability to learn new things and get advancements. They are always looking to improve benefits and get employee feedback

    Cons

There really aren't any cons the only thing I can think of is that sometimes people are there for 20, 30 and 40+ years so if you were looking for a position where one of those people are it's hard to get advancements but there are always other opportunities in different areas for advancement

    Advice to Management

    I don't have any advice

    Pros

Magnet designated, RN empowerment, Nursing leadership present and active at higher (decision-making) levels, great interdisciplinary work, great benefits, professional advancement encouraged - amazing education benefit to help with this!

    Cons

Parking is a challenge - pay for parking, parking far away and taking a shuttle. Cafeteria is currently under construction but healthy food options are lacking!!!

    Advice to Management

Long term solution for parking situation would be great!

They encourage continued education which is great for any individual planning to advance in their career.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees a little more and the place would be number 1!

I worked at VCU Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They pay better than 7-11, Walmart, etc.

    Cons

You are going to be expected to learn how to navigate through a broken system that took years of bad decision making, bad trades, bad business by all the people who get paid $$$$$$ and do NOTHING but walk around and go to meetings. Its a typical corporation. You will learn how little their appreciation of you is, the minute you say anything to the effect of, things could be easier, more organized, etc...then your days are numbered.

    Advice to Management

None. They are like 1% that controls America, they dont TAKE advice from the little people. Advice to workers, strike and demand ALL managers that play favorites, that retaliate, bully, etc...be fired by morning or the whole place will walk out.

I have been working at VCU Health (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Amazing benefits, best health insurance you'll ever have, still get annual raise

    Cons

Nurses have no say in decisions made about their practice, EMR too tedious, lack of food options for night shift workers, lack of employee resources available for night shift workers such as employee health, employee pharmacy, etc. Must wear ceil blue and white, cannot paint fingernails

    Advice to Management

Respect your biggest with force and treat us well. If we walked out you'd be screwed.
