I worked at VFW part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Genuine people with good values

    Cons

    The location is almost hidden.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I have been working at VFW full-time

    Pros

This is going to sound like I was put up to this, but I truly feel that the VFW is the best Veteran Service Organization (VSO) out there.
Self-Reliant positions available with Trust from your Supervisors (sometimes located in different states than you are) that you'll do your job to the Highest of Standards that the VFW is known for.
I wake up every day happy to go to work and be of Service to my military family.

    Cons

A lot of newer military and Veterans do not know about the work that the VFW does.
A lot of the people that do know about the VFW have preconceived notions that we all work in wood paneled bars.
Not enough marketing to educate the new generation of Veteran and Active Duty about all of the services the VFW offers.

    Advice to Management

Put a little more focus into the Marketing side. You know we are the best. We need more exposure so that the many Veterans and Active Duty who don't know about the VFW services available are shown, not just spoken about.

I have been working at VFW part-time

    Pros

I get to work in a mild atmosphere for the most part. It fits nicely with my schedule and my manager is lenient with that.

    Cons

Because of my age and being among customers of retirement age, there is a certain disrespect.

I have been working at VFW part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friday nights are karaoke nights they are fun. It would be nice to see more people come out and enjoy karaoke.

    Cons

Young generation of soldiers of different backgrounds aren't welcomed too kindly. The VFW is mainly for OLDER soldiers.

Working with Veterans , listening and interacting is one of the most rewarding things that you can do. Take time and help in your local VFW

    Cons

This is a volunteer job...the only con is if you are doing it for money this is not a place to work...do it instead for the Veterans
