Pros
-Very pleasant to work for by making teaching resources easy to access -VIPKid teaching material (slides) made teaching online much easier then expected -Constant improvements to VIPKid app were especially useful -Getting paid was easy to setup -Teaching children online was fun even when there were challenges -The VIPKid site provides a lot more guidance for beginning teachers then when I started
Cons
-Very difficult to accumulate new student bookings due to doubling their teacher numbers. Their ad said they employed 30,000 teachers when I applied and after working under contract for one and a half years the ads claimed 65,000 teachers. Acquiring new bookings was already challenging when I began and became scant to scarce after 1 year. -China passed a law requiring ESL certificate that VIPKid provided lessons for current teachers on their website (TESOL) which was greatly appreciated, but TESOL really does nothing to make you a better teacher. It is mainly teaching theory and ideas. Although I found it really interesting , it seemed unhelpful to teaching children. -A lot of work in acquiring different levels that you are allowed to teach. -VIPKid does not provide any props, equipment, basic teaching tools, etc. All of this comes out of your own pocket. -There is a resource known as the Hutong which provides materials you can pay with credit acquired by different reading exercises but the worthwhile materials are extremely expensive (require a tremendous amount of time and energy to acquire the credit). -The whole process was really overwhelming and time consuming to figure out when I began.

Work from home. Curriculum is designed, no lesson plans
Cons
-Communication with Home Office in China is delayed due to time difference and language barrier often means limited answers - The available times to work are rough
