I have been working at VITAS Healthcare full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Get to make a difference in the lives of patients, & their families. It is a very precious time for all, and hospice helps so much.

    Cons

Dealing with service issues can be very difficult. Emotions run high when you are helping families at this critical time.

    Advice to Management

Pay more to employees, train them better. Decrease nurse work load.

    Pros

Very rewarding job caring for seniors at the end of life

    Cons

Can be a very physically demanding job, Would not recommend, poor management, very little support, high turnover, unethical employment and billing practices, differences in pay for the same position

    Advice to Management

Offer employees more support, with better management, do not require employees to participate in unethical billing practices

I have been working at VITAS Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great working with the dying and their families

    Cons

on call and if you don't agree with management they write you up even for situation that they is out of their scope of practice: for example General Manager making clinical decisions but only expertise is finances of the company, inconstency in disciplinary actions, play favorite, lack of respect for line staff, policy and procedures are not followed, everything is about Vitas Standard or Vitas best Practice yet policy and procedures are not followed, appears that they don't refer to policy and procedures and hence making up rules along the way, money matters over patients

    Advice to Management

Seek alternate ways to communicate with the line staff and in a way that show respects, rather than use of humiliation or like one is a fifth class citizen, learn assertive communication skills and social skills in general, learn boundaries within ones scope of practice, learn limitations of scope of practice; lead by example and it will show up when employees are working with patients and families, train new managers before making them a manager,

I worked at VITAS Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generous pro, meeting with families and patients, work is rewarding, and friendly co workers

    Cons

Management thinks only about profit making, they back each other up and don't care about employees therefore giving new managers too much power.

    Advice to Management

A good manager looks at situations on a neutral perspective and is open to feedback. I left because my manager was not open to feedback, she thought that she was perfect and was not willing to see my side, it's so sad I really enjoyed vitas but because my manager did not care about how I felt as a person that's why I left.
