I have been working at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great culture. Great people. Great perks!

    Cons

Pay may be better elsewhere... RSU grants in the sales ops side are few and far in between. Growth requires turnover.

I worked at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Campus that is environmentally friendly.

    Cons

VMware's compensation structure shifted from a base salary + bonus to a commission based payout. There are significant risks associated to the newly formed commission payout structure and they are worth considering: 1) High Revenue Target, 2) The Annual Revenue Target is a "moving" target and can be changed at mid year depending on the group accomplishments, and 3) Lack of Control on when deals are closed. From a holistic view, this is a Win-Lose outcome at the expense of the Employees.
Moreover, career growth, rewards & incentives are limited! One can expect to stay within the same role for 4-5 years before being considered for promotion with minimal salary adjustment.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the Voice of VMware. After all, it was a survey completed by the collective group.

I worked at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of future possibilities, growth potential but you shall be working for the core business. There many options outside the core that are very interesting and will give you more flexibility and reduced targets but they don’t last forever
Technology is fantastic and the company spend a lot to make the products feature rich and with quality
There is a very helpful atmosphere in the company and a we can do attitude

    Cons

Even if there are a lot of possibilities you need to go get them yourself, no one will give you anything. Its a highly competitive organisation and you need to meet your targets. The company will use as much as they can from you and you have to be able to say no, else you fall the risk of working 24/7.

    Advice to Management

Share strategies earlier so that your employees have a chance to react and be ready

  6. "Best Company I've worked for"

    Pros

Flexible, Challenging, Rewarding, Autonomous, Potential for Impact, Visibility, Respect, Team Oriented, Fiscally responsible, aggressive, encouraging, technically aggressive and on the cutting edge of technology, remaining motivated to maintain market position and continue to develop new and emerging products that solve business issues for our customers.

    Cons

They could use some work on back end systems/reporting/applications, etc. With as fast as we are growing it is hard to keep up with the explosive growth. On-boarding was a bit of a "welcome to VMware" and then off you go into the Abyss of work. But highly functional, motivated, experienced consultants should have no problem maintaining motivation and quickly get up to speed and find the right people to reach out to.

    Advice to Management

Stay headed in the same direction and don't change the upward trend. Gartner and our stock price says it all. Watch out for the up and coming competitors both small and large and don't make the same mistakes of previous market leaders that become complacent with their leading products and soon become vaporware.

    Pros

World class technology that works and is changing the footprint of computing across the infrastructure stack.

    Cons

Tremendous expansion and growth the last 4 years. Turn over of management, mixed signals on direction constant react mode at all levels.

    Advice to Management

Focus on back-end process to catch up to the size of the company. Keep turn over low. Increase training. Align solutions with sales to increase the VMware license/service footprint.
