I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

VMware has an amazing blend of leading technology, clear strategy, future vision, coupled with a genuine desire to develop and support its people and for those people to give back to their local communities with 1 week a year of fully paid charity hours

    Cons

The cons are so trivial they are essentially irrelevant. Especially when compared to othe blue chip IT vendors today

    Advice to Management

Maximise your opportunity to promote from within. There's no point Training people on hard or soft skills without building them into a succession plan of some description.

I have been working at VMware (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great benefits(Dental, Health,Pension ...) + generous RSU

It makes you feel proud to work for a company with such a great product and solution portfolio.

6 weeks of On-boarding is a great way to welcome you into the company

    Cons

    None - I can't think of anything.

    Advice to Management

Avoid falling into the DELL-EMC company culture as this will ruin the fabulous VMware culture.

I have been working at VMware (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Technology is great. They welcome and encourage people to use their own initiative

    Cons

It's an out and out boys club, either you're in it, in which case you get promotion on promotion, or, like the majority, you work hard to help elevate others.. very frustrating indeed.

    Pros

Friendly and respectful culture / work environment
    Successful and growing company
    Competitive pay and benefits
Focus on diversity, especially opportunities for women

    Cons

Like most US headquartered companies, fairly US-centric

    Advice to Management

Become a truly global company with Executives based around the world

I have been working at VMware (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Brilliant Technology and Innovation
Flexible working environment and company culture is at heart of everything, strong values
Strong program for retaining top talent
Truly Global - doesn't matter where you are you can lead/contribute to Global initiatives
Focussed on diversity; lots of initiatives to improve diversity

    Cons

Young company, lacks maturity in some aspects, as long as you know who to ask, you can get things done quickly and efficiently; great if you are a natural networker
At times, HQ a little out of touch with Field

    Pros

    Fantastic Technology
    Great innovation
Really flexible working environment and company culture is at heart of everything
    VMware foundation
Top Talent is at the centre of everything
Drives to be a truly inclusive work place

    Cons

VMware has a lot to shout about, but isn't very good at doing so in EMEA.
VMware should be a company that everyone wants to work for, but there are too many mis-conceptions around the organisation we used to be and there is not enough noise talking about who we are today.
    HQ centric organisation

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing to make this a great working environment, but please help to get the message out there in EMEA that VMware is the place to be

    Pros

It is a great company to work and it was even greater to work for when it was effectively controlled by Carl Eschenbach. Technology remains in demand despite the great challenges from both heavy weight and startups technology provider. They need to find a formula to carry forward in the world of giant public cloud providers as well as SaaS offerings

    Cons

Europe is a black hole in VMware... It is run as a french government office that is dedicated only for old France people (i.e. not immigrants). If this continues I can see VMware paying some heavy price for one of the things everybody wants to be far away from it (e.g. sexual harassment, discrimination based on gender, race, religion, nationality, or sexual orientation)

    Advice to Management

Pat, do something about Europe management

    Pros

    Great company
    Great culture
    Great products
Technology that has transformed the market

    Cons

Senior Presales Management - there is no character in some of these people, and hence they don't build lasting relationships with their employees. People normally leave managers not companies.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so stingy on promoting your high performers. Many embrace change and evolve with the org but you just don't recognize it. Senior management get promoted but the key workers who are the engine rarely get a look in. Second advice to management - build a relationship with your team (ALL OF THEM) and have a laugh.
