I worked at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - driven employees
    - direct, transparent, consistent leadership (prior to Dell, can't comment post Dell)
    - beautiful environmentally-conscious campus
    - very family-oriented and pet-friendly

    Cons

    - switching groups was challenging, it was easier to leave than to move internally
    - didn't kill losing products quick enough
    - kept using "startup" in self-references, like 'working with a startup inside of a large company'. Stop that... you're a large company... there might be more dynamic or newer divisions due to acquisitions... but you're not a startup or collection thereof.

    Advice to Management

Do whatever it takes to ensure Dell doesn't cause anymore Brain Drain or attrition. Once you become like an HP, Cisco, or Dell, then just throw in the towel.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Wonderful company values fully embraced by everyone
Great atmosphere leaving room to the voice of the employee in any occasion
Keeping the lead in the industry on both technologies and community considerations
Talented people keen to do the extra mile because it is allowed more than required

    Cons

So much going on, from a product and strategy perspective - it's hard to stay on top of everything
Internal communication is not always very transparent, especially for employees outside of Corp HQ

    Advice to Management

Very demanding environment that suits better highly talented leaders, more than just people managers

    Pros

Great culture, dog and family friendly environment...expanding company with growing revenues. Vast selection of leading edge software products for enterprise companies. Great benefits, unlimited vacation policy and oh, did I mention all of the free food in the kitchens? OMG...Be sure to hit one of the two gyms on campus between celebrity events and concerts.

VMware is a great to hang your hat for a few years. Highly recommend this company. Ranked 6th by Business Insider for "The 25 Companies With The Best Pay, According To Employees" and I can confirm that this is true. Check it out for yourself! You will not be disappointed.

    Cons

The temptation of the free food.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate the sugar rich snacks and drinks?

    Pros

Good company to work for. Great work/home environment. Management is very passionate and ready to innovate and grow the company.

    Cons

The EMC ownership of the company doesn't seem to have brought as many dividends for VMware than it as provided EMC.
