    Pros

    VMware recruits and hires top talent, so you're surrounded by good people doing good work. Everybody seems to be very passionate about their work. The management team is very strong, so I feel confident in their ability to keep up the incredible success that VMware has had to date. VMware's meteoric rise makes it an exciting place to work with ample opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

    The main downside currently are the growing pains from doubling in headcount every year. Some of the reasons that made VMware a great place to work years ago are becoming diluted and/or fundamentally changed.

    Advice to Management

    As VMware continues to grow, it is critical that we address the difficulties caused by scaling up. In a company where 40% of the people have worked there for less than a year, it is too easy for the overall nature of the company to change in a negative direction.

    Pros

    Company is in a great position for the cloud computing business. Nice compass, good pay, lots of training.

    Cons

    Too many re-org. Trying to be a big company, but sometimes lost its direction and become more and more political.

    Advice to Management

    Please make sure that the re-org impacts employees as least as possible. And make sure that the new manager will look at the review and provide opportunities to the new comers.
    Make sure that direct manager has less power to decide an employee's fate.

    I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Beautiful campus, at least the old part, Good benefits, Job security.

    Cons

    Politics, chaotic (given company size). vmware is an amalgamate of acquisitions with lots of way to integrate them in. Company is too inert to effectively learn from past mistakes.

    Advice to Management

    Holding on to incumbent non performing upper management staff poisons troop morale. Put result based metrics in place to help separate the wheat from the chaff.

    Pros

    * Lots of opportunities to grow
    * Very smart people
    * Differentiated product line (and the market leader)
    * Great CEO

    Cons

    * Uncertain about company's long-term direction (virtualization market will saturate eventually)
    * Risk of old-timers leaving when their stock grants run out

    Advice to Management

    Improve communication and coordination via middle management; right now, it's very difficult to know when things will happen and how.

    Cons

    At times, the decisions are taken at a slow rate.

    Advice to Management

    Please give candid feedback to the employees.
