I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Stability of a mature company/product (vSphere) mixed with opportunities in high growth innovations (NSX, vSAN, Airwatch, etc)
    - Amazing new Palo Alto campus. Beautiful, comfortable, great location, good food
    - Great work/life balance
    - Excellent comp and benefits
    - Positive culture

    Cons

    - Some typical "big company" problems, mixed with churn and growing pains of a newer player in some markets (eg networking, public cloud, etc).

    Advice to Management

    - Get the R&D career ladder/titles more aligned with industry.
    - Push back harder on pressure to show short term growth vs long term strategic moves.
    - Be more assertive about coaching or moving out leaders who don't fit with culture/values of the company

I worked at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Work from option is there.
Compensation is good if you have competing offer while joining.
    Pantry is awesome.

    Cons

Was hired on the promise of good work in a good team, but that was turned out to be a false promise with all the re-orgs and moving employees around from one team to another like cattle. I feel there is no clear roadmap for the teams based out of Bangalore.
There is no good development work in Bangalore, only support work.
No career growth in terms of learning.
Promotions and hikes are for the manager's minions. Credit is stolen by others at every chance. Too much politics.
Most of the managers are incompetent and only know how to micro-manage without any technical knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Please hire good managers with sound technical knowledge so that they can communicate with the engineers.
