I have been working at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are playing the "long game" and understand the value of strategic approaches and plans.

    Cons

Too many reorgs causing territory and account shifts.

    Advice to Management

I think the company is well run and more strategic today than it was a year ago. A real shift is happening and VMW is less of an ELA machine than it used to be and this is a good thing.

Enthusiastic employees, in-demand products, free food, great money.

    Cons

May be harder than expected to move from inside sales to the field.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are on the right team, it will be the best work experience of your career.
    1st class benefits
Honest leadership even though they make mistakes

    Cons

Cons are very little. Of course it depends on you job, manager, section. My only problem was that they had to lay me off. They did it in the best way possible with respect and as much help for me to transition as best as I could. Thank You.

    Advice to Management

The focus on inclusion was a little too much communication wise. When you over talk something it looses its value sometimes.

I worked at VMware as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture and employees, very supportive of the work the interns do. Mentorship opportunities and ability to shadow other departments

    Cons

None that I can think of, great learning environment for anyone thinking about going into sales. Company growing rapidly, interesting to observe

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at VMware (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Smart, hard-working culture. Leadership is good but less inspiring and intuitive than the past.

    Cons

You might hook into an initiative that has little sponsorship or go to market support. Ultimately, VMware still sells a few core software components really well and the rest is experimentation.

    Advice to Management

Thin out the management and current staffing to reduce the friction in order to make the necessary pivots to survive.

I worked at VMware (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of enablement training and programs to get informed, certified, and grow your value.

Two years in a role and 30% pay bump, stay. Use the experience and certs to leap into another company below 1000 employees, you'll see 2-3x the pay of what VMware offered.

    Cons

Limited opportunity for advancement in your role unless you're political or a favorite.

If you're good, you're supporting allot of the politically connected or favorites. Do the work anyways, and get as many trainings as you can in and know your value.

If you are not hitting your number or running a special project for management, you're on the list of layoffs.

Dealing with managers.... If they have not done your role at VMware, they are just giving you input on what they want you to hear, so look out for yourself.. Find a team or specialist role asap with that type of manager.

    Advice to Management

Management knows everything. They are doing their part to manage the herd. Keeping you busy on smaller tasks, speaking to the optimist in you about lateral promotion s before they get their own new gig or jump ship..

Also if you're a good sales leader/manager, other places are paying 2x for experienced help that can build sales skills versus speak to the spreadsheet.

Who is hiring, look for those with 500 plus employees, in the security, development, and Saas space... And 80-100 million in earnings.... They are hiring and paying well. Get a decade of pay in 3 years.
