I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Legendary customer adoption, commitment to ongoing education, fair compensation

    Cons

"What's next" is an opportunity and an uncertainty.

    Advice to Management

Time for additional change at the very top of the product marketing organization to match the change in sales.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Pay. Some smart people. Good products. Nice campus. good technology for doing work. IT working on getting better tools especially to support remote teams scattered around the world.

    Cons

Little to non-existent process. Constant layoffs. EXTREMELY high turnover, Continual 're-orging'. Shifting, unclear or non-existent roles / responsibilities. HR policies being created but not enforced. Have seen explicit age and gender discrimination in hiring and hostile work environments that even when HR informed they do nothing or even allow retaliation on those reporting. Summer intern program was ok but most of the interns I talked to said their assigned 'managers' spent very little time with them. Global teams are hard to be in as expected to work 24x7 to support all GEOs and Palo Alto.

    Advice to Management

With such high turnover and quarterly layoffs continuing is hard to advise what to do.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great technology, great people... fun to be a part of something that is growing so rapidly and so well known in the industry. Rapid pace and lots to do. Great focus on personal growth and development.

    Cons

Starting to show signs of an old school tech company that is getting slowed down in the paperwork and has too many people making too many processes to make processes.

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on what is really important - stop trying to find validation for your job.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, exciting work, nice culture (mostly). While they accept WFH, they prefer you to be in the office.

    Cons

You have to be in charge of your work/life balance. Because they no longer offer vacation as a benefit, it is easy to not take it.

    Advice to Management

Need to have more than a 3 month plan. 3 VPs in 2 years and the radical change in priorities was crazy.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A ton of flexability when it comes to work hours for remore employees. It's EPIC2 values are great values (execution, passion, integraity, customers and community) and many people believe in them. Compensation is good if you work hard. Very minimal supervision which is good if you don't like to be micromanaged. Work-life balance is good if you make it good.

    Cons

The direction changes quickly depending on who your leader is. A lot of disconnect between the different business units. Not many opporunities for growth. They hire from outside of the company most of the time. A lot of turnover in the last year.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture of giving back to the community. Top executives are smart and there is lots of opportunity for company growth.

    Cons

Lack of process--operates like a start up. Lack of a presence solution makes collaboration a challenge--heavy email culture, death by power point and unnecessary conference calls. Work load is insane, resulting in churn and burn.

    Advice to Management

Encourage mid managers to mentor and develop employees and be true to the culture and values.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people and good compensation.

    Cons

Key shifts in IT are impacting current product offering. Culture shifting more towards big company. Few opportunities for employees to move up. Company keeps hiring outsiders for leadership positions.

    Advice to Management

Stop spending so much time managing up.

I have been working at VMware full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, great products and great vision. VMware is full of amazingly talented and motivated people who are focused on making things happen. VMware's products are awesome and market leading and the vision of the SDDC is very real.

    Cons

Internal IT can be a little challenging, however the people more than make up for it. Being remote and figuring out all the ways that people communicate and systems that need to be connected to can be a little tough, but given time and helpful co-workers it works.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.
