I worked at VOHRA Wound Physicians part-time for more than a year

    Pros

No nights, no weekends, no call, I thought had a fairly good, well organized training program.

    Cons

Note: This review (4th submission) has been watered down to the point that many important specifics have been omitted under "trade secrets" terms violations. So here I go again. I was recruited by VOHRA Wound Care Physicians rather persistently in 2016 after responding to their ad. The job title as a wound care physician involved traveling to various nursing home facilities with which VOHRA had signed contracts and...

    Advice to Management

Have the decency to honor the most basic aspect of a contract, otherwise rewrite the contract. Stop lying to and threatening those physicians who provide exclusively wound care services. Stop overpromising.

I have been working at VOHRA Wound Physicians full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I make my own schedule, lead wound care teams at my facilities, work for a company that is still changing and progressive, take no call, work no weekends, define and assert my role as a patient advocate, management policies to help mitigate risk

    Cons

2 weeks of vacation a year, driving on undivided highway, constantly training new staff, low population density, follow through subject to formulary and insurance, flat reimbursement for debridements, rehab facilities and nursing homes can be fickle, litigation-prone specialty

I worked at VOHRA Wound Physicians full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

No call, no weekends, good pay, intellectually challenging. If you like wound care (and that's a big if), this is a great job, with predictable hours and very good pay.

    Cons

You have to be willing to work in multiple facilities, you have to be willing to work in nursing homes, you have to be OK with wound care, and corporate is far away (I was fine with these things, but for some they are negatives.)

    Advice to Management

An MD friend of mine was recently between jobs and tired of the rat race of every fourth night call, every other weekend on call, declining revenue, increasing demands, etc., or as I like to call it, the usual MD job in our current crazy health care system. I told him to check out Vohra Wound Physicians, since I thought it might be a good fit for him. I worked for them for about 4 years. I had a good experience, and left...

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at VOHRA Wound Physicians for less than a year

    Pros

low stress, some flexibility (but not as much as they claim), no call/weekends

    Cons

Income much less than predicted. Many out of pocket expenses (all your own supplies!). Lots of driving. The EMR (their pride and joy) is clearly a home-brew project. It's not well designed and takes forever. And it's full of typos!! They completely disregarded my requests for practice area and have my driving much further than I agreed to when I signed my contract. No paid vacation. The health insurance offered is...

    Advice to Management

Respect your doctors more. Remind practice managers not to treat their doctors like an annoyance. Be more up front about all the hidden costs.

    April 25, 2016Vohra Management Team

Sorry to hear that your experience in practice development did not work out as planned. Please contact the CEO directly so we can address this. In less populated areas, driving is a challenge. We work hard to address this and reimburse travel cost. The total benefits package is much ...

I have been working at VOHRA Wound Physicians full-time for more than a year

    Pros

No call, no nights no weekends. Important service to underserved population. Pretty good internal EMR. Company run 100% by physicians. Corporate office generally helpful and pleasant to deal with.

    Cons

100% fee for service. No physician control over patient volume. Lonely practice environment where it is challenging to get good input on difficult cases. Most important: Reimbursement projections given during recruitment process are extremely overly optimistic. Little to no opportunity for advancement within company.

    Advice to Management

More realistic income projections during recruitment would have been nice.

    VOHRA Wound Physicians Response

    May 23, 2016Vohra Management Team

Thank you for your review. While some physicians do ramp up their practices slower than others, most ramp up faster than we advise. Fee for service allows the physician to design their own schedule and work load.

I have been working at VOHRA Wound Physicians full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Complete autonomy, flexible schedule, no on-call, no nights, no weekends. I essentially run my own practice in conjunction with my practice manager. I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction from my job and am definitely making a great impact on the care that my patients receive. The executive team is wonderful. First-class clinicians and even better people! They are always there to answer questions and help out...

    Cons

A fair amount of driving is required for this job, but honestly, that is really the only drawback that I can mention.
