    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Worked on new and exciting products (as long as they lasted...)
Mid-level management was very reasonable and recognized the efforts of the employees.

    Cons

New projects get canceled because they wanted to make money right off the bat (no faith in long-term R&D).
As a software engineer, don't expect to be working only on software (at one point in time you might find yourself spending several months doing QA type work!).

    Advice to Management

Take better care and recognize the hard efforts of your employees. Have faith in bleeding edge technologies and in advanced research and development. Long-term you will see that the investment in this area will pay off.

    Pros

opportunity to earn a paycheck...that's about it

    Cons

If your not family your not in management. Very limited growth potential unless you marry into their family. Creativity is looked down on and you have to constantly kiss their asses to keep your job.

    Advice to Management

Get some new people in there with new ideas

I worked at VOXX International (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pat Lavelke is a nice guy however he needs to clean house in many of the Sr leadership positions at Vox

    Cons

Many of the senior leaders are not nice people and their language and commits in closed meetings are unbelievable. They need to go! The inventory and forecasting systems are obsolete. This company is operating on a shell game, which is why the stock is in the tank and why they just had another round of layoffs. Stay clear of them as an employee and dealer/retailer.

    Advice to Management

Jon and Pat you should fire the President and CFO

    Pros

If you like to kiss the CFO's butt, this is the place for you. Good benefits.

    Cons

Bad management. CFO has her little group of butt kissers who listen to her stories while they pretend to care. If you're in her clique, she'll buy you lunch everyday with the company credit card. Lots of office gossip. If you take a day off, the CFO talks behind your back.

    Advice to Management

    Replace your CFO!

I worked at VOXX International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Always expanding (acquiring brands) which helps them to keep growing. Some of the brands are not household names.

    Cons

In desperate need of organizational structure and standard operating procedures. Management looks at the business year to year instead of two to three years ahead.

no future, a dead end job where only those related to top management have a chance of advancing. the place where careers go to die. lots of infighting between employees and departments. Extremely CHEAP in all areas!

    Advice to Management

Make money instead of making excuses and blaming the weather for your inability to make your numbers. time to retire and bring in new blood

"Great Mission Statement! If only it were true."

I worked at VOXX International full-time

    Pros

The Corporate Mission Statement is great:"To provide the highest quality products and unparalleled customer service. To ensure sales support that meets and exceeds our customers' expectations. To be a responsible member of the communities in which we conduct business. To encourage employee growth and participation through open communications. To produce maximum returns for our shareholders and our Company's growth. To provide a safe and satisfying work environment for our employees."
In my experience, the folks at Voxx really tried to do a good job, many worked very hard and everyone was friendly. It was a safe, stable environment in which to work.

    Cons

I will take each point from the mission statement and share my observations:
1.There were some high quality products being produced but for the most part product development talent was lacking, strategic direction was non existent and long term product planning was not happening.
2.Unparalleled customer service - To ensure sales support that meets and exceeds our customers' expectations. This did not happen and if customers were surveyed regularly I doubt Voxx would get very high scores. One issue is that so many folks have been in place for so long that they don't know what unparalleled customer service looks like. Some training in this area would help. More interaction with customers and the understanding of pain points.
3.To be a responsible member of the communities in which we conduct business. TRUE!
4.To encourage employee growth and participation through open communications. There was a lot of micro management and total lack of open communications. Leaders that sought a "teachable moment" or a lecture with no baring on results over a collaborative session with a productive outcome. Not a lot of room for growth. Lots of nepotism.
5.To produce maximum returns for our shareholders and our Company's growth. A few of the other reviews mention the short term, shot gun approach to sales and goals vs. a long term strategic planning. I certainly found this to be true and believe that in time, if this continues to prevail, Voxx's growth will be inhibited.
6.To provide a safe and satisfying work environment for our employees. Safe yes. Complacent yes. Archaic yes. For many that is satisfying. Many employees with 5, 10, 20+ years obviously find the place satisfying. For me it was just frustrating.
Also - Lots of very inefficient tools, processes and procedures. Lack of accountability.

    Advice to Management

360 degree feedback for all management - I believe the people getting the feedback and their leadership would be truly shocked at how the majority of the folks with whom they interact really feel about them. And then use this feedback to clean house.

Listen to your customers - what do retailers really think about Voxx and the brands under the Voxx umbrella.

Give employees with the clear view of what success looks like - especially long term employees or folks that have never worked anywhere else.

Revamp a lot of the systems and processes. Hire smart new people to do this.

    End the micro management!
