I have been working at VSP Optics Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management shares information freely and allows you to do your job with minimal oversight. Their benefit packs is excellent.

    Cons

The on-boarding process is not geared for the faint of heart. Being a self-starter will be the only way to survive.

    Advice to Management

I seriously couldn't offer any advice as management is already doing everything right. They are caring, innovative.and knowledgable.

I have been working at VSP Optics Group

      Pros

      Good benefits. Some great co-workers.

      Cons

No trust or transparency. Pay not based on results. They keep telling us we're a non-profit that pays taxes (there's no such thing). Lazy leadership, good at PowerPoint presentations, but not much else.

      Advice to Management

      Practice what's preached.

      Pros

Learn new skills, great company benefits, food catering, good hours with lots of overtime in the winter, casual dress environment.

      Cons

Not the most positive workplace environment to be around. No communication. A lot of negative energy, especially from the leads and supervisors. No moral values.

      Advice to Management

I have been working at VSP Optics Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great work atmosphere, pretty casual and relaxed, nepotism encouraged, the workers are down to earth, and the executives as well. Supervisors don't just tell you what to do but they actually get in the trenches with you when it calls for it. The chief, director, manager, whatever you wanna call him is a great guy. No Big "I"s and little "u"s.

      Cons

Due to the fact it is somewhat of a manufacturer, there are some demands on speed and accuracy. Problem is, they seem to be harder on some than others. Being that the winter is actually their busy season, you may have mandatory overtime, including working on what should be a holiday or on the Holiday weekends. They tend also to wait just a little late to start hiring for the busy season. You may get let go for the...

      Advice to Management

If you do end up requiring people to work on the holiday or holiday weekend, find some way to make it up to them. Offer a day off later on in the year, as long as it does not interfere with already requested time off and will not hurt business. Something....

I worked at VSP Optics Group full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Medical was covered no out of pocket for entire family per check. Recently implanted a bonus program that is increasing yearly. Great co workers. The company had a good amount of catered lunches to show appreciation.

      Cons

Management was temperamental. A lot of favoritism. Machines broke down frequently which would result in being sent home early then working overtime to catch about. The busy season typically from December to February was blacked out so no PTO could be taken and the days were typically 10 hours minimum and it was mandatory. A lot of mandatory Saturdays . They made it very hard to move up or do something different within...

I have been working at VSP Optics Group full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Fun energetic environment with opportunities in many areas. From sales to operations and possibilities in product, marketing and supply chain. If you're motivated to go above and beyond there's lots of opportunity.

      Cons

Rapid growth has caused areas to be misaligned. All part of growing pains. Sometimes the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing.

      Advice to Management

Try to be more transparent with where we are going so that we feel our work is important and aligned with the future.
