I have been working at VSP Vision Care full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have worked in various departments in my 18+ years and have grown as an employee in each one.

    Cons

Seems like people that are hired externally get hired at a higher rate than those who are trying to promote within the company

I have been working at VSP Vision Care full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Culture is good
    Genuinely nice staff
    Employee resources for learning

    Cons

Political - just forced out a great President
Promotions and Salary program is less than what's reported in other areas
Work life balance even though you get 4-5 week of vacation. I tend to have to work during vacations or get an average review.

    Advice to Management

Stop creating VP and Director positions. If current Executives can't get the job done and drive vision, don't create another Executive position, get rid of the dead weight. Leadership seems to be ok to do so with the staff...practice what you preach.

I have been working at VSP Vision Care full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Vacations and bonuses. Working environment and everyone is friendly

    Cons

Management in some departments are not very helpful with helping advancing your career. Lot of favoritism and pay is okay but not competitive with other companies with similar roles & job functions

    Advice to Management

Become more of a leader by showing the same amount of respect to all of your employees. Groom and help your employees reach their full potential and helping advance in their careers.

I worked at VSP Vision Care (Less than a year)

    Pros

State-of-the-art technology in both mainframe and mid-level machines.

    Cons

Technical management is composed of several "fiefdoms", and the managers in charge of these areas are not sufficiently self-confident to allow any difference of opinion from their pre-conceived notions.

    Advice to Management

Replace all technical management with competent people, easiest method is to contract with IBM to run the shop.

I have been working at VSP Vision Care (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellence, customer satisfaction scores, corporate mission to help people see, vision-related innovation, desire to influence the health care industries worldwide

    Cons

Except for the innovation teams, some older established sections of the corporation plod along and make decisions slowly, looking for consensus and not making waves.

    Advice to Management

Middle managers: listen to the direction given at the top, and give it your full support so line level employees can support those directions at their level.

    Pros

Work life balance, friendly atmosphere, solid exec leadership team.

    Cons

For many positions, pay is not aligned with with market. Not much movement at Director level and above, so career advancement can be slow and frustrating.

    Pros

Good environment to learn and growth, people are nice, friendly and willing to help.

    Cons

Pay rate is low for intern. And some people still able to stay here without doing any work. One of my team member had not done any work for 3 months but she still stay, company need to be more strict and kick out useless people
