I have been working at VWR full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They know how to choose staff everyone is a delight to work with. Every time I request a day off I almost always get it the management tends to meet you half way which is great

    Cons

Hard to get internal support because of the attrition and how much work they put on the management staff would be nice to get to be able to branch out and learn skills within the campus so make us more knowledgeable about the company

    Advice to Management

I hear its hard to move up with in the company but not impossible I will be trying soon to move up so I have limited experience with this

I worked at VWR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

VWR Is the industry leader in scientific supplies. They have strong leadership.

    Cons

There is little room for advancement and they typically look outside for upper management

    Advice to Management

Improve path for advancement within the company. Match salaries to industry levels.

I worked at VWR part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

VWR offers a wide variety of employee benefits - 401k (with 4% match), reasonably priced health insurance, affiliations with insurance companies (car, home, life) that provide significant discounts, etc. They are extremely safety conscious and will accommodate employee health limitations as they arise.

    Cons

As a very large, international corporation it is difficult to be seen as an individual. There are many rules, regulations, and mandatory training sessions that often do not apply to regular/hourly employees. Yearly goals (personal and departmental) are often changed throughout the year so it can be difficult to maintain a high enough "review grade" to qualify for yearly raises (which are most often at the 2% range).

    Advice to Management

Work more with long-time staff to increase their opportunities for advancement. Not everyone likes to be in the same position for 15+ years without additional incentives to give their all.

I would recommend this company to friends who are looking for something in the 5-10 year range; anything longer than that has no forward/upward movement opportunities.
