I worked at Vaisala full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to learn the industry, and technology, wear different hats and learn the roaps in the european company. If lucky, you will travel to Helsinki.

    Cons

No direction, changes all the time, management is not engaged or aware of employee's efforts, success. Departments are fragmebted, product road map is vague

    Advice to Management

Talk to your employees, do not pick the favorites, based on people advocating for themselves.

    Pros

Compensation and benefits are more than fair; There are some good people there, but few and far between; Interesting products/technology

    Cons

Overly processed/complicated; Decision making all based in Finland; Lack of leadership and no accountability, which encourages mediocrity; Too many/conflicting goals/metrics; Too many unnecessary positions; Lack of customer service

I worked at Vaisala full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is a true engineering focus at Vaisala. The company is fairly stress free if you strive toward mediocrity. So, if you are looking to get a good, stable position with little real world pressure or metrics to perform against, this is a great company for you.

    Cons

If you are a performer, you will find it frustrating at Vaisala. Pay scales are largely communal in nature, which seeks to equalize the strong and poor performers.

    Advice to Management

The company has floated around €250m for about 15 years if memory serves me correctly. This means in terms of real value of that they have lost ground. They act like a social workfare agency rather than a competitive market entity. A true waste of potential. The North American CEO is wholly unqualified for the position.

I have been working at Vaisala full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company has a long history and traditions, majority of employees have been working there for a long time. Nice colleagues, dedicated to their work and loyal. Good balance between work and private life, quite many recreational activities organised e.g. through company's sport clubs.

    Cons

Very low employee rotation between different roles and functions, motivation and efficiency is not at its best. Company culture supposedly encourages open feedback, reality is that you are better off by keeping your mouth shut. Old-fashioned working policies (e.g. teleworking not allowed). Inefficient HR. Low training and career progression possibilities. Rigid and slow decision-making.

    Advice to Management

Value your current employees, invest in them. More emphasis on different career paths. It cannot be efficient if the same person has been in the same role for over 10 years!

I worked at Vaisala full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good work/life balance
    Competitive compensation package
    Offers paid training
Good HR policies, benefits package etc.

    Cons

Very euro-centric attitude - different treatment of non-Finns despite being a global company
Secretive management, poor communication with teams
Management has numerous initiatives to appear being attentive to their employees but do not demonstrate much regard to their thoughts or ideas
"Vaisala values" are mainly corporate greenwashing and not really followed in practice
Must tow the line to have any chance for opportunities/advancement

    Advice to Management

Listen more closely to employee's concerns. Improve communication among teams.
