I worked at Valent BioSciences part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a very calm environment to work in. Valent employees were very friendly, professional and a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

I have no cons about this company.

I have been working at Valent BioSciences full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great working environment, great pay, great benefits.

    Cons

Advancement Opportunities are lacking with few employees.

    Advice to Management

Step up the advancement and make exceptions of extraordinary employees.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Easy to soar high when working with so many turkeys. Employees leaving have made current employees more valuable; probably not too many layoffs in the future.

    Cons

Most new hires are temps with no chance of future full time employment. Company probably moving to corn fields of Iowa in future. Many employees 60+ but no succession plans in place. Cant compete with larger agribusinesses.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of "dead wood"

    Cons

small company and tough to advance

"Work was awesome, fulfilling, and I enjoyed it. It's possible to get pigeon-holed into a job due to company size."

    Pros

Work independently, intelligent colleagues to bounce thoughts/problems off of, good people that genuinely care about you and your work.

    Cons

Inadequate management at times (useless feedback on performance reviews [work style never changed but reviews did]; bad management of "people issues", management perceptions can't be changed even if you demonstrate in black and white that those perceptions are invalid).

    Advice to Management

Take a more people-oriented approach by genuinely listening when people speak to you about problems instead of thinking they are troublemakers or want to rock the boat or are bringing the issue up because you think they don't like a particular person...
