I have been working at Valero Energy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great variety in jobs, and competitive in pay. The site that I work at has been making great revenue since 2011, and the future is looking prosperous.

    Cons

The refining industry is cyclic, and could at anytime see a downturn, but this company has great benefits and is always looking out for the employee. The environment is very relaxed/old school almost to the point that it is hard to get others on board with new ideas. This is changing with new employees and the older ones retiring.

    Advice to Management

Make a list that shows the engineering opportunities, and the progression or ladder to get there. There has been too many positions that have just been hand picked and not necessarily any competitive was of bidding for this engineering position.

    Pros

I worked as a summer intern at the McKee refinery in Sunray Texas and I had a great experience. All the interns were treated with respect and we were given meaningful projects to do. Everyone working at the refinery had great things to say about the company and I will definitely recommend working for Valero to anyone.

    Cons

I did not enjoy the location of the refinery because I was used to living in bigger cities. The electrical engineering department was too small

    Advice to Management

The intern symposium at SA was a great learning experience about the company, but it would be better if the symposium was not too packed with a lot of activities with the short time frame we had
