I have been working at Valley Health System (New Jersey) full-time

    Pros

Good startup company. Relatively ok benefits.

    Cons

Company will not let you grow. Right now they have a hiring freeze for nurses. To me they do not value employees that want to further their education. They don’t utilize their abilities.

I have been working at Valley Health System (New Jersey) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

CEUs on a calendar, no trouble off if you know 6-8 weeks in advance when you need it, medical benefits for full or part time, thorough orientation and open-door policy with management

    Cons

call outs work against periodic reviews no matter what the reason is, some staff not as welcoming during orientation, no promotions, lower pay than the rest of bergen county for staff, medical insurance only applicable for providers approved so check benefits before making appointments

    Advice to Management

none. staff meetings immediately address issues and are open to suggestions and resolutions to problems

I have been working at Valley Health System (New Jersey) full-time

    Pros

    Cutting edge procedures and treatments
Compensation recently made more competitive with other Area NJ hospitals
    Tuition benefits
    Decent employee health plan

    Cons

    Bad staffing ratios
Patient care varies from excellent to awful depending on managing physicians
Poor communication between physician/physician and physician/nurse
Constant turnover in ER/certain inpatient units means young inexperienced RNs are managing high acuity, complex patients without experienced RNs to consult
Management always looking to save money at the expense of safe patient ratios & employee satisfaction
Patients &Families are allowed to run amok/dictate care even when they are inappropriate/threatening with staff
Management pays lip service to shared governance & a culture of respect (mainly so they can advertise all the corresponding awards) but ultimately does whatever they want
Physicians can give criminally negligent care and retain privileges

    Advice to Management

Get rid of dead weight physicians who don't provide quality care to patients
    Safe staffing
A real voice for bedside RNs - not BS staff meetings where no real concerns are actually addressed

    Pros

    Cons

Company is very poor in training their employees, very unprofessional management, staff that stabs people in the back, and upper management is not concerned with the job satisfaction of their employees.

    Advice to Management

Promote people to management positions that not only have the knowledge to perform the job but also the social and people skills to motivate and teach those under them.
