I worked at Vanderbilt University Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I experienced a great work environment with diverse patient population. The unit I worked on had excellent management and intelligent, hardworking nurses and nursing assistants. I only left because I was moving. Otherwise, I would have stayed forever. My coworkers were kind and always willing to help in anyway possible. I highly recommend working here.

    Cons

The patients are usually higher risk patients which can lead to a high stress work load at times.

    Advice to Management

The management in obstetrics is incredible and so compassionate. As an employee you will always feel valued and heard. I could not have asked for anything better.

I worked at Vanderbilt University Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very proud of the care and research going on at Vanderbilt. These efforts make marketing the clinical services much easier.

    Cons

Refusal to set priorities make marketing very difficult. Refusal to make decisions pushes difficult discussions down to manager level--which is not effective or fair.

    Advice to Management

Make it clear to the organization that marketing resources are limited and therefore prioritizing projects/service lines is necessary. This means that some groups will not get marketing support. Sr. Management needs to be the one to deliver that message.

I have been working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My nursing and physician colleges have been very respectful. There is a good culture here, and plenty of opportunities for continuing education, as well as career growth.

    Cons

Salary is not as competitive as the surrounding hospitals and the process to petition for a $2.- is so absurd and exhaustive that it serves as a major barrier to otherwise deserving employees ( you need to submit a full application packet to a peer-review committee to prove that you have earned your $2.00) .

    Pros

Great people encouraged personal growth development of all the places I have worked this one makes you have pride in what you have worked on it is great when you hear how users love to use a program that you helped get into production makes all the work worth it

    Cons

Tend to be silos there are several different development groups and sometimes it seems like there might be several groups working on the same product but for different clinics communication can be challenging as well sometimes you can feel like you aren't being heard or that your opinion isn't important
