Vanderbilt has been an excellent place to work until the 2013 reduction in force initiative.

    Pros

The tuition benefit for yourself and your children is one of the best incentives for working for Vanderbilt. Due to the limit number of parking spaces available at the Medical Center and University, Vanderbilt also provides free bus transportation by Nashville MTA.

    Cons

Due to the economy and recent layoffs/reduction in force, the assurance of a job provided you have a good job performance history is non-existent. The employees, prior to 2014, had free access to HealthPlus, the on-campus gym--now there is a monthly fee.

    Overall, good!

    Pros

Tuition benefit for career advancement helped me complete MSN. My co-worker stays working for the benefit to be paid for her kid's collage tuition. I believe the safer nursing environment in terms of the quality care and safety than other hospitals in the area because of the magnet status awarded by ANCC.

    Cons

No bonuses for more than 4 or 5 years. You have to pay a monthly parking fee as an employee if you drive to work which majority of us do!

    Cons

Rapid expansion without support of staff. Claim to provide education benefit which is paltry and over hyped.

    Pros

Looks good on resume. The best benefit of tuition benefits for your children have been dramatically reduced

    Cons

You are looked at as replaceable. Pay is substandard and staffing ratios are very difficult

Restructure has changed the morale ....

    Pros

Great support in perfecting skills in training, mentoring. Understanding of home needs, crisis and even your own health and accommodate needs and or changes in scheduling. Trusting in working independently, no micro management. I happen to have a great boss, cant speak for others. Performance reviews were very fair. Pay was appropriate for position. All in all - thankful for my job and not getting laid off.

    Cons

Restructuring and changes - re: benefits, some lost pay & time off that was originally saved during previous standards - they were forced to sell below value or lose it 'after' it was saved in past. Expecting more new changes as University and Hospital splits. Not clear how it will affect next yrs benefit packages or job security. Last change forced large surge of people to be laid off without any notification. Not good. Christmas and christian celebrations were no longer allowed. Politically correct? Also not good. (corporate decision?) Morale has grossly gone down hill due to all the cons listed.

    Pros

Tuition Reimbursement is the benefit that most employees use.

    Cons

A Physician run organization. Scientists can only see things as they are and refine them.
