Registered Nurse

I’ve been working as an RN for ~2.5yrs now with experience in AcuteTele & CVICU. I’m doing my MSN Administration right now. Threw my hat in randomly for a nurse manager position and got called in for an interview but now feeling very nervous as I prep for it. I know I don’t have enough experience compared to some of the other applicants but any word of advice from fellow RNs & nurse managers on how to make myself seem like a better candidate? I want to try my hardest!

    Pros

High level of care and a great place to learn and grow in your career as a nurse.

    Cons

The schedule. You have to work 2 on-call shifts in a 6 week period. This does not sound bad but trust me it is hard. And you will get called in 100% of the time, sometimes to staff other units even though you were on call for your unit. There will definitely be weeks where you are working 60hrs. Very poor. work life balance and in some cases hard to get a day shift RN position.

    Pros

Very good work life balance Great benefits Great people Amazing mission focused on research, teaching, and patient care Tremendous opportunity to learn

    Cons

Lots of shifting direction & 'science projects' that go nowhere. Commute is very hard from most places with good public schools. Good raises only seem to go with promotions or threats to leave, and those can only happen so often. Tries to compete with vendors by reinventing the wheel.
