    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Vanderbilt University full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Located in the heart of Nashville, an amazing city to live in. Vanderbilt is a highly reputable place with great undergrad students.

    Cons

This is a place where great people come to destroy their careers. The rapid rise of this place leaves the senior faculty far less accomplished than the junior faculty, leading politics to govern most critical decisions. The university leadership puts diversity on display, but behind the scenes this place is toxic with discrimination, unfair treatment, and lack of upward mobility for those who are not part of the local gentlemens club. Overall, if you plan on being single, if you are male, and you are happier being mediocre and part of the club rather than excelling with visibility in the greater community - this is a place for you! Check out their recent tenure decisions that have gained national prominence in the news and major scientific journals. That says everything.
