I have been working at Vanguard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A virtuous mission backed by a truly unique structure, significant investment in employee training and continuing education, best-in-class retirement and benefits package, generous time off and work-life balance, collaborative relationship-based culture, lots of rotational and promotional opportunities for top performers, improving at weeding out low performers and cultural cancers

    Cons

Compensation could be greater, culture can be too nice and conflict averse, people can rise/fall based on a few or old impressions with influential people

    Advice to Management

Figure out a way to better engage middle management and longer tenured employees.

I have been working at Vanguard full-time

    Pros

    -Great work life balance
-Great Benefits (401k match, plus bonus pension)
    -Very cheap health insurance
    -Relaxed dress code

    Cons

    -Medium Salary
-Very "corporate" in terms of culture/structure (lots of tedious corporate hoops to jump through, lots of hierarchy)

    Advice to Management

Keep up the friendly, client focused goals. While doing so, try to treat employees a little bit less like a "cog in the machine" and give them a little more autonomy

    Pros

Ethical behavior, culture of maximizing shareholder value and not wasting money, risk aware not risk averse

    Cons

steno-pool cubicle layout with no privacy and extremely high and distracting noise levels

    Advice to Management

don't chase every HR fad. The office of the future is awful.

I have been working at Vanguard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Since its founding, Vanguard has held true to a simple mission, to take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance at investment success. I joined after six years of consulting, thinking I would be here for only a couple of years before moving on to bigger and better things. 16 years later and I am still here, working along >15k other friends who are equally passionate about making a difference and doing so with the highest ethics and character.

    Cons

We are a very rational workforce, and data is critical in ensuring we are on track to achieving our objectives. At times, our "left brained" approach can overshadow the emotional nature necessary to create a highly engaging environment.

    Advice to Management

Continue to lean into our core purpose, and continue the momentum built towards achieving our aspiration of being the best place to work on the planet.

I have been working at Vanguard as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

So far as a contractor it has been wonderful. I am treated like a crew member and everyone is so welcoming. There is a ton of room to move up and also become a crew member within a year.. most people start out on a phone role or a contractor in a better position and then get promoted!

    Cons

    No cons so far really

I have been working at Vanguard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexibility in role, Strong benefits, Friendly colleagues, Collaborative environment, Easy access to management, Supportive managers, Work-life balance, Virtuous mission of the company - we truly care about doing what is right for our shareholders and the community, Volunteer opportunities to give back to the community

    Cons

Limited role opportunities if you are not at the Malvern headquarters, Internal interview process relies heavily on your ability to effectively interview and can be a drawn out process, Compensation could be higher; however work-life benefits out weigh a compensation increase in my opinion

    Advice to Management

Empower your managers to make decisions without having to check-in, Keep up the great work for our clients and community

I have been working at Vanguard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

401k match is good but other than that it's really not that great of a company if you want to do anything with actual finance and are at a satellite location

    Cons

Just about everything else. It's a glorified call center with no real growth potential unless you want to move to Malvern, Pennsylvania

I have been working at Vanguard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to move around and try different sides of business.
    Gym on site
Lots of people to help you decide on career path
Partnership is excellent bonus and keeps you in line with a lot of the other companies

    Cons

Benefits are good but could be better.
If you get stuck in a job it is sometimes hard to get out.
Interview process when you are already an employee is annoying.
