I worked at Vanguard as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Didn't really interact with Vanguard staff.

Was contractor with TCS and their God-awful racist, misogynist, highly unprofessional, inept H1B staff.

    Advice to Management

Vanguard can do better than conduct business with those TCS miscreants.

    I worked at Vanguard full-time

    Pros

    - Great location
    - Friendly, professional, and helpful co-workers
    - Opportunity to work over-time
    - Plenty of departments/roles to promote within
    - Some of the managers are decent and intelligent

    Cons

Works hours can be poor, no flexibility, very difficult to bid for an early shift. Most employees usually work well into the evening, some departments work weekends.

Vanguard is infamous for hiring young, inexperienced, recent college grads as managers, who have no people skills.

Some departments have less work-politics than others. Unfortunately the department I was in, had a handful of "favorites" and if you were not one of the "select few," forget about recognition or promotion within your own department, you're better off moving to another team/department of management who actually appreciates you.

The employees who DO promote are absolutely masters of brown-nosing upper-management. So if you want to promote, be super friendly with all managers in your department and you'll probably be promoted, even if you have no professional career experience or subject matter expertise of your role....

    Advice to Management

Do more to get away from the bureaucracy. Instead of promoting those who are better brownnosers, focus on people who are good with people AND their job. Aim to be more fair with all of your employees not just a select few...

I have been working at Vanguard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not hard, easy hours, good work/life ratio. Fun events every month or so. Good co workers and people to work with.

    Cons

Call center. Monotonous job in cubicles. People aren't rewarded for the work they put in but who they know. Cubicle culture can get depressing day after day.

    Advice to Management

Look to promote the employees who are leading their teams not the ones most active in company social circle.
