I have been working at Vanguard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Affable coworkers
-Conservative culture (maybe a con for some)
    -Clean campus with on-site dining
-Generous PTO, ability to flex schedule

    Cons

    -Low initial pay
-Undergrad doesn't matter (maybe a pro for some)
-Dislike small talk = shunned. Be ready to discuss Netflix and fantasy football
    -Dizzying policies and procedures

    Advice to Management

Those in management are mostly fine, any issues come from being young and inexperienced. Ivy-league MBAs run the company in Pennsylvania, where most real opportunity lies. The Scottsdale location is a call center. Vanguard doesn't tell you that when you apply.

I worked at Vanguard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

PTO, benefits, they will pay for you to get your licenses and CFP

    Cons

Low pay- and they will lie to you and say it's competitive. Initially you will get decent raises and then they will find every excuse why you will only get a 1% raise after your 3rd year.

You are just another employee that is replaceable- example: a couple of years ago a crew member took their life in the Scottsdale parking garage. The entire campus received an automated message stating to not come in until 10 am. When we came in the managers were "business as usual" those were the actual words my manager said. Management's then concern was how to increase department service levels because the campus opened late.

If you don't become a mindless minion they will micromanage you until you are miserable and quit.

They are abusive. I only had 2 good days there. The first day I started because I didn't know better and the last day when I put on my sunglasses, flipped the building the bird and rode off 2 hours before I was actually supposed to leave. They will tell you how wonderful you habe it with them. Don't be fooled. I felt like I was leaving an abusive spouse that beat me for the last time.

Management is like a cult. Several members in Scottsdale are part of something called landmark. Google landmark. It is insanely expensive and you commit several long weekends away from society doing God knows what. My manager would push landmark on me during every meeting where it was just the two of us. It was uncomfortable to tell her no and I felt I had to make excuses why not to go with her. After that she micromanaged every breath I took. Suddenly I was the worst employee she ever saw.

They brag about 37.5 hour work weeks. In reality they will force 30 minute lunch breaks on you half the year so they don't have to pay overtime.

    Advice to Management

Fire all management and start over.

I have been working at Vanguard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. They have a very generous benefit package. If you are lazy, it’s a great place to work.

    Cons

It is a cult. You better never offer suggestions or challenge management. You are paid to execute, not to think. You are a soldier. Nothing more. Management is arrogant with a lot of empty suits.

    Advice to Management

Embrace diversity of opinions. Groupthink will eventually get you into trouble. Luckily you have a great business model. That is the only reason you are successful.
