I worked at Vanguard University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Vanguard has some of the most amazing Students, staff and faculty.

    Cons

No promotional opportunity. Extremely low moral as cited by WASC accreditation. The highly insecure administration fails to understand that their employees are the most valuable asset they have at Vanguard. They treat people as expendable and regard any dissenting opinion as traitorous. All attempts to “address” morale have been disingenuous and ineffective.

    Advice to Management

You actually do have a morale problem and you are going to continue to lose really good employees because you don’t value people.

I worked at Vanguard University full-time

    Pros

the only pro was working with people that you were all in this bad situation with

    Cons

Low morale, leadership just sees you as a way to get numbers. No appreciation for your work, revolving door of employees leaving and getting hired.

I worked at Vanguard University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Generous vacation and sick time
    - Onsite lunch discounts

    Cons

Vanguard suffers from a number of highly distressing issues, such as:

    - Administration is highly incompetent, completely lacks integrity, and does not follow a coherent business strategy
    - Strategic decisions are not communicated effectively to staff, resulting in widespread confusion over how daily tasks tie in to the institutional vision, resulting in common staff disengagement
    - Legitimate staff concerns are almost always deflected
    - Nepotism is widespread
    - Administrators are happy to cover up clear ethical (and potentially legal) issues at the expense of employees
    - High turnover across multiple departments due to abusive management
    - Employees have VERY little room for advancement and pay is consistently 10%+ below industry averages
    - There is a very clear morale issue that has been consistently ignored by administration for multiple years
    - Anyone at VP level or above is highly out of touch with the departments they oversee

    Do NOT work here.

    Advice to Management

Take a long, hard look at yourselves and how you treat employees. Ask if that treatment is even remotely close to ethical or the institution's core values. Actually listen to staff concerns regarding morale and stop denying that the issue even exists.

    Pros

Christian university so the majority of the people that work at VU are wonderful.

    Cons

There is a very low morale issue right now and resources are being cut.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent and honest, address employee morale by doing something about it.

I have been working at Vanguard University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have deeply enjoyed my time working with students and hearing their stories. I have had immense joy being involved in the community, supporting the dreams and aspirations of students, and being a helping hand for those who need it. The community is what kept me hear for the past four years and keeps colleagues of mine returning for years.

    Cons

Some recent hires show a clear lack of understanding of the needs and representation of the student population. Although, concerns were "heard," critique seems as if it falls on deaf ears to some of the individuals making hiring decisions. The community that has been built has been built to systematically cater to a select group of individuals and not everyone. Although, the university has been efforts forward, there is much more effort to go.

    Advice to Management

Bring more people into the processes that you may not fully understand. It is hubris to think that you have all of the answers.

I have been working at Vanguard University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you live on campus, there are a lot of great entry-level job opportunities (especially if you do not have a car!)... Also, each department is usually really flexible with a student's class schedule.

    Cons

There is little opportunity for growth.
