    Pros

Job security is a plus. The training in Vanguard University is very helpful when studying for the Series 7 and 63.

    Cons

The salary is below the financial industry. The bonus that is given depends on how long you have been with the company and your position.

    Great Place to start

Sep 20, 2011 - Client Relationship Associate, Banking in Malvern, PA

    Pros

Vanguard is a company that is at the top of the industry. It has great training programs and often gives people the ability to get their licenses. Moving up is tricky and political but overall it's a great place to start. Benefit packages are also pretty nice along with partnership, once you've gained enough tenure, you share the profits with the company.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive, and it's a ultraconservative environment. They have no regard for their employees in the institutional call center, but I guess that's like everywhere else, right?

Good benefits, decent pay, decent training

    Cons

if you don't pass the test you get fired. the training wasn't in depth and some of the trainers just read out of the book.

    Pros

Good amount of PTO Compressed schedule (3 day weekends) Easy job

    Cons

Unfairness (some hires get more training and/or project opportunities than others that are hired at the same time) Plays favorites (you have to be social and outgoing in order to be liked by managers and move up the ladder) Biased/rigged metrics (some crews will not take breaks or overwork to have high numbers) Unwillingness to help/lack of team effort (everybody cares so much about their own performance and numbers that they are less likely to help new crews who are out from training) Moving out mentality (tenured crews always wants to promote externally or work for another department; making it hard for newer crews to have a positive view on the current role because all everybody is thinking is to move out; lack of internal growth) Managers play favorites (they may assign special training/projects to some crews and not others)

    Good Benefits, Nice people.

    Pros

Vanguard is a good stable company that provides exceptional benefits and opportunity for growth and development. People seem genuinely happy to work for the company. Management seems fair for the short time I worked with them.

    Cons

Training needs to be restructured and tailored more toward what employee's will actually be doing. They will let you go if you do not pass the Series 7 or Series 63 licensing exams (they give you 2 attempts). They are not willing to find other work in the company for you if you do not pass. You figure for as much money they spend on your to go through training, they would be more willing to find an area for you until you are able to successfully pass the exams.

What you see is what you get

    Jul 6, 2010 - Processing Associate
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Very good benefits package, generous tuition reimbursement. Ethical and honest company. What you see is what you get. Thorough training program. Beautiful campus, outstanding dual-screen technology, a free library with investment books. Opportunities to develop yourself and participate in finance classes and other trainings at Vanguard's expense. Ample overtime opportunity, especially during tax time.

    Cons

Easy to get pigeonholed into a role. Difficult to get promoted from some entry level positions. Salaries relatively low for the industry. Performance standards can be grueling. Management team works employees very hard for a mediocre salary.

    Pros

Vanguard is a huge company with many different potential career paths. It has great entry level positions to get your foot in the door and the on the job training is amazing!

    Cons

It's very hard to move up in the company. Because so many people are hired for entry level positions, there's a lot of competition to get promoted or even change positions into another department.

Get your experience here, then go elsewhere to get paid what you're worth

    Sep 12, 2008 - Retirement Plan Administrator
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Vanguard invests heavily in employee development - they provide extensive training and encourage employees to invest in themselves through higher education reimbursement programs. In addition, there are a myriad of different job opportunities since it is such a large organization - even opportunity to transfer to another site.

    Cons

Efficiency is certainly not a strong suit at Vanguard - in addition, the pay ranges are markedly low compared to competitors. It can be quite frustrating to work very hard and not see a big difference between your own salary and someone who works half as hard. There is a lot of "dead weight" holding the company back.

    Not as Advertised

Jun 24, 2021 - Client Relationship Associate in Charlotte, NC
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Learn a lot about financial industry and stocks/market function. Learn to how to communicate with clients. Good stepping stone once you get series 7 and 63 licenses for other jobs. You get done right when your shift is over.

    Cons

The training programs basically do not exist so everything you learn is through trial and error. Which means a client gets upset and yells at you until you get it right. Nonstop working for the entire shift. You will be taking back to back calls for 8 hours a day. You do not get any spare time and if you are 1 minute off it will show up and management can see that. Most people quit within the first 6 months. Been there less than a year, started with a hiring class 25-30. There are 3 of us left and I am constantly looking for other jobs.

    CALL CENTER

May 16, 2020 - Ultra high net worth client consultant in Charlotte, NC
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The benefits are good but you can get the same benefits at other companies.

    Cons

This is just a call center. You will learn everything you need to know for the position in 2 months and then you will be stuck in a position for one year before you can even post for another call center position. If you want to go into management you will need to get 'in line' because there is a 2 year waiting list. The training is subpar and does not help you to develop real life career skills.
