I worked at Vans full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, great for attending school while working.
Can work with really awesome people

    Cons

I your unlucky there will be a lot of politics and the worst kind of people seem to thrive in that kind of environment.

    Advice to Management

Positive reinforcement is a much more enjoyable management type to work under. Its been my experience that most employ the fear/iron fist version of management and it is just exhausting.

Room for growth, only if you show real dedication and persistence.

    Cons

You don't make very much. This wont pay the bills, its just kinda an allowance.
Depending on the store you're working at you may not get any holidays off.

    Pros

Fun environment, competitive sales, great rewards

    Cons

limited hours, we waste a lot of paper

    Advice to Management

Cut out the people who are constantly not pulling their weight, stop giving more to those who you are friends with vs. the people who actually deserve it

I have been working at Vans part-time

    Pros

You can be yourself, for the most part. Employee discount is pretty decent as well. You sell shoes, it's really not hard at all.

    Cons

The only incentive for making sales is getting a higher employee discount on products. It's lame how when you make a ton of money for a company, they reward you by encouraging you to spend money at their store.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with all store employees. Too little is revealed to associates, making new additions/tactics come as a surprise.

I have been working at Vans part-time

    Pros

You get the discount, decent looking shoes and apparel, and if you're lucky with the location a pro shop for all board needs

    Cons

I've been at this company for 2 almost 3 months and received no formal training, I make $8.10 an hour, the first shift makes a mess and my shift has to stay an extra hour or more past being scheduled to fix the store to an adequate level for the next day only to be neglected again by first shift.

    Advice to Management

How about you train your employees so they can make the most of the situation they're thrown into, and make it where people are accountable for the outlook of the store at the end of every shift.

I have been working at Vans part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced, ever changing, room for growth, great discounts. Easy to track your growth and learn how to move up in the company

    Cons

Hard to move from retail to corporate, daily tasks can distract from training. Pay isn't that great and no commission.

    Advice to Management

Make better connections from corporate to lower levels

I have been working at Vans part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - 50% off all regular prices merchandise
    - 30% off all sale merchandise
    - fun place to work
    - cool management & coworkers

    Cons

    - very little hours
    - minimum wage pay

    Advice to Management

i wish there were less employees so that we could get more hours.

also-- a lot of people complain about the amount of hours they give but honestly it's meant to be a part time job more than anything. i'd never depend on retail for main source of income, being the hours and sales are always fluctuating. perfect side job to have but definitely not a main job.

I have been working at Vans part-time

    Pros

Decent pay for a part time retail position

    Cons

You get bonus hours rewarded for your performance, but if you work most of those hours you're put in a hour restriction list where your hours are cut and permanently lose them

I worked at Vans full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company culture. Great office environment. VF Corporate funding helps with office equipment, a lot of fun employee events, if you have the ability to travel in your job they really do take care of you overseas.

    Cons

A lot of department politics and number crunching and not a lot of employee development. They say that it's important, but many of the people who are in management are really looking to stay on top and not develop some of their very talented employees.

    Advice to Management

The company looks from top down, executive management really needs to take care of their employees by ensuring to either hire directors / managers that will develop talent and cultivate that mindset creating great employees.

I worked at Vans part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible schedule and clothing discount.

    Cons

Very few hours. Upward growth retarded by people who will throw you under the bus when they make bad decisions, blaming their failure to plan on you. Horrible leadership.

    Advice to Management

MAKE SURE THE EXIT SURVEY IS ACCESSIBLE. Promote people who are smart
