I worked at Vantage Media full-time

    Pros

Great people / culture (originally). Value and performance based services / model (we win / if our clients win).

    Cons

Failed business decisions lead to management simply trying to survive. Clients were negatively impacted, employees were negatively impacted, good people were mistreated and goals were either unattainable (mostly due to failed products and general strategy).

    Advice to Management

Rebrand and start over (note: they have).

    Pros

Room to learn a lot, especially in regards to data analysis in driving decisions. Felt like an important part of the team. Kind and supportive coworkers.

    Cons

Salary was low in relation to the workload. Senior management wasn't transparent when it came to the direction of the company. Swift changes were made without much notice, leaving many to scramble to adjust.

I worked at Vantage Media full-time

    Pros

Stocked kitchen, good people, great insurance, weekly lunches, opportunity to learn

    Cons

Still scratching my head to figure out what the vision or goal is of the company.

Poor decisions and execution of ideas have caused the current state of affairs at VM.

You will be moved around like a chess piece in the office, typically happens quarterly as the vision of the company changes once a quarter. Good chance for you to clean off the dust on your desk.

Quality engineers=Quality product, not the case here. Realize that quantity over quality is not always the answer. The entire technology team is located in Guatemala, think about it.

Upper Management. The communication is catastrophic.

    Advice to Management

Only successful businesses can create and secure jobs.

Make your product easier to buy than your competition, or you will find your customers buying from them, not you.

Exercise being proactive instead of reactive in all business decisions.

Lead this company so that people want to work here and believe in something other than the diet coke in the fridge.

    Flexible work hours
    Great location
    Very casual dress

    Cons

    Executives are all MEN
    Zero communicantion
    Company vision changes quarterly
Your position will change quarterly....this is not a promotion, will be a lateral move and you have zero input
Executives seem to part of an elite all boys club and don't speak to those who aren't part
75% of the company is located in Guatemala...nice people but no Bueno

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees and they will take care of you. Open your eyes, people are leaving and leaving fast!

    Pros

    Interesting problems to solve.
    Mostly friendly and diligent workers.
Some interesting, well-rounded, and passionate people.
Many treats like a weekly lunch, birthday and cultural celebrations, and nice office space.
Flexible work location and time arrangements.
    Accessible managers.
    Talkative people.

    Cons

Not hiring appropriate talent to solve important problems.
    Several arrogant yet non-critical thinkers.
    Not having a test-and-learn strategy.
    Bulldozing despite scope creep.
Lacking clarity about engineering resources and feasible deliverables.
Supposed analytics people that did not know analytics (math and data technologies).

    Advice to Management

Make decisions with both eyes open, which means listen to major pain points, and then test-and-learn to start avoiding sub-par error-prone do-everything solutions.

Learn how to match data and technology problems to appropriate skills.
Stop pandering and pointing; start identifying problems and collaborating to solve them.
Stop hiring based on standardized tests; doing so further suggests you do not know what to look for.

    Study this mashup scenario:
12 angry men in a leaking boat, paddling in several directions but not solving the leak.

    Cons

    Pros

You'll get a paycheck and health insurance

    Cons

High stress, not knowing what the future holds, trying to tell the difference between the truth and what is told to you

    Advice to Management

There's a right way and wrong way to handle communication. Be honest. Don't hide. Don't think fancy resumes will fix all your problems. The people you're affecting are real people. They actually worked hard for you. Don't treat them like trash. Read some articles on the value of human capital. If you have to type up a bunch of fake reviews to boost the sorry ratings on this site you know there's an issue. It's not just a bunch of crazy ex-employees complaining.

I have been working at Vantage Media full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, good people, full benefits, work-lief balance. Flexibility in hours and for working remotely. Opportunity to grow within is there, but you have to work hard and push to make it happen.

    Cons

Communication of company goal, changes, etc. gets lost between upper management and employees. Things often come as a surprise to everyone not involved in the executive team meetings. Not a lot of structure, sometimes difficult to figure out when people will be available or in the office. General consensus is that salary is on the low end for those below Director level.

    Advice to Management

Try not to "keep secrets" from lower level employees, it makes some people uneasy to have changes thrown at them with very little time to react or adjust. Make an effort to assess the implications of decisions (operational, client issues, tech changes) before they are made rather than having everyone always reacting to problems that could have been prepared for with a little more time/planning.
