    I worked at Vapiano International

    Pros

Anyone can get a job here. Fresh out of prison? Drug dealer? You'll feel right at home here.

    Cons

This isn't just my personal experience. If you work service or bar you don't get your person tips. Promotions don't come based on merits here. Customers must stand in line like a food truck while their order is completed. There is no Service besides buss boys and a host. The management is lazy, doing everything it can to cut hours/corners. There is no training for kitchen staff, nor is there a Chef in charge to plan any training. You have to learn every last thing on your own. You will receive recipes in size 8 or less print. They're like the fine print you have to hold 1 inch from you eyes to read. It is common practice for management to send you home before you've properly cleaned. Always understaffed. Never give out raises. Pay less than is agreed upon. Dock your hours. My daily routine when I showed up: inspect every last bit of food on the line. Because nobody there cares. They will serve pasta that stinks like rubbing alcohol.

I have been working at Vapiano International full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great atmosphere, great coworkers, decent customers. It's a good place to work and probably the best place I've worked at in a while.

    Cons

Same thing over and over and over again when you work in pasta. I have dreams (nightmares?) about making dishes multiple nights a week.

I have been working at Vapiano International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pasta can be a demanding station but if everything is sorted for ingredients being topped up then it is actually very fun if you enjoy a challenge. Some customers can test your will at times but as long as you remember this is a service job as well as being a chef you have to bare it, grit your teeth and still smile and make a good meal. If you are new to the country and want a job or want to try cheffing for the first time as a job, I think this would be a good starting experience as you can develop many skills and gain knowledge of how a chef should cook, clean, etc...

    Cons

When looking to progress in Vapiano it can be hard because all stations may be full. E.g. when before I had my salad certificate I never had an actual trainer for salad or a shift that matter, I just jumped in when pasta wasn't busy and learned everything on the side. Another bad point is that Vapiano can hire anyone, no chef experience, maybe a very small amount of language spoken in the native tongue. Sometimes this can hinder the business or the work ethic/attitude between workers. E.g. a lot of the Spanish pasta chefs at my current Vapiano if there is no customers around they will just laze about when there are plenty of other things that can be done to help the team such as extra cleaning, top up, kp, etc... When having lazy people in the work place sometimes they don't care about the food. A lot of the people may be passionate about the food so there may be a clash or hinder to work ethic with that. tips are very small compared to other places. pasta are underpaid with the amount of stations they have to close in the night when salad and pizza only have to close one.

I worked at Vapiano International part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The work is easy, everyone you work with is friendly. Your shift will go by quickly. It is easy to change stations (work as a pasta chef) and learning each area is easy, but requires dedication and time.

    Cons

Everyone outside of management is basically minimum wage, the business will receive a huge profit because the "Chef's" are minimum wage employees who will know how to make a hand full of dishes, with easy substitutions.

I worked at Vapiano International full-time

    Pros

Great working atmosphere. You make a lot of friends. Manager are enough flexible regarding rota requests, but it depends a lot on the station you are working in (pasta, pizza, salad, bar, host, service, prep, kp). If you work hard, there is no way you lose the job. Bonuses.

    Cons

It depends a lot on the location. Vapiano Bankside is much more quiet, while Oxford Circus branch is a nightmare. I worked there and, in general, shifts are too long, 10 or more hours on average around 3 times per week, and the restaurant capacity is around 300 seats. In busy times (christmas, sales, wintertime) that means you won't stop but for your hour break. Some silly policies such as: you pay half price for your food, no personal water allowed for chefs, staff have to queue up for the food. Career opportunities are actually possible, but that is based on the time you can survive in such a place more than on anything else.
