I have been working at Varian Medical Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Let's start off by saying I love this employer. The pay is well above industry average, healthcare and bonuses are significantly better than the rest of the industry, the training programs for new employees are excellent and well thought out and quite extensive. The vast majority of people working here are smart, hard working people who want to succeed and they want to help others succeed as well. Numerous advancement opportunities and lateral transfer opportunities Great corporate culture and no layoffs. I thoroughly enjoy working here.

    Cons

The only con is that if you think you will only work 40 hours in a week this job isn't for you. Weekly average is more like 50 hours due to the complexity of the equipment you work on and time it takes to perform maintenance and repairs on such a complex machine.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what has made Varian successful, treat your employees well, train them well and allow them to treat the customers well and you will continue to succeed.

I have been working at Varian Medical Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great mission, great products, good people, excellent corporate culture.

    Cons

The company has grown organically for the most part, and we are sometimes working with systems that are outdated or that weren't scalable enough so haven't kept pace with our needs and hamper our ability to perform.

    Advice to Management

There might be invisible pockets of excellence and achievement, because not everyone is a great "self promoter." I'm not sure how you ferret out this kind of information but it's important to try.

Nice company, respectable, honest. "Do well by doing good" is our motto, and we live by it. There is never a question about this. Also, they put a lot of effort into innovation and new products.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, but try to push your people a bit more too.
