I have been working at Varnum (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The firm is somewhat flexible in that it allows for job sharing and/or flex time when needed.

    Cons

The firm is very closed minded and does not allow for any growth from within. Management is also somewhat behind the times with technology.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to revitalize and re-assess. Management is on the older side and seems to have a hard time with understanding how the younger generation thinks and works.

    Pros

Very nice and centrally located offices in Michigan. Staff professional and willing to provide more than adequate support. Good use of technologies.

    Cons

Could use some updates in my opinion. I believe that management could consider adding more staff. Otherwise very nice work place and accomodating.

    Advice to Management

Very little since well run and professional. I might suggest changing office decor and taking on more space to increase personnel. Good place to work.

I worked at Varnum as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great mentors for internship program.
Great salary for location since cost of living is low in MI.

    Cons

There is a huge lack of diversity.

    Pros

The people. Every day it is enjoyable to come to work because you know you will be treated respectfully by those above you on the totem pole, and treated nicely by those technically below you.

The office building itself is also quite a nice place. The location is a little odd in the sense you can't really walk to any good restaurants, but it's a modern landmark building with an excellent view of the city. Easy, convenient parking in the lower 1/4 of the building.

    Cons

The pay does not compare favorably to other, larger markets. Of course, the cost of living is much cheaper in Grand Rapids -- but probably not enough to make up for the large gap in pay.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

    Advice to Management

Even though your employees dont "bring in the dollars" the work doesn't get done on it's own. We deserve respect and feel unappreciated.
