    Pros

I have been with Varsity for nearly 20 years and there are some really great things about the company. First, there are so many great people that work for the company. You can dress down in the office. You are given a good amount of vacation time, especially over the holidays.

    Cons

Being a State Director who works in the Memphis office, you don't necessarily have the same flexibility as those who work outside of the office.

State (Sales) Directors who work in the office are given additional responsibilities that don't necessarily have anything to do with sales.

There is a lot of travel required over the weekends. You are not compensated for this travel or given additional vacation time.

    The pay could be higher.

There isn't much room for growth or career advancement.

    Advice to Management

An annual performance appraisal would be appreciated.

Treat everyone equally and follow company policies.

Work harder to keep good employees around! We're losing great people!

I would like to see more of a team environment.

    Pros

Laid back environment, new technology, and lots of room to learn new web software/technologies

    Cons

Raises are not always given and that is across the board

    Advice to Management

Employees will stay if you just give some type of financial increase in salaries.

I worked at Varsity Spirit full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a great company to work for! Very friendly people and a fun culture to be a part of.

    Cons

They don't pay for sales reps travel expenses. They encourage you to always be on the road prospecting, but some have a 4 hour territory, yet they don't pay mileage or anything. I spent over $7k due to driving expanses in one year. They say you can claim it on your taxes, but in the state I lived in you couldn't at the state level.

    Advice to Management

If you really want "feet on the street," not having that cost coming out of our pocket would incentivize a lot more action.

I worked at Varsity Spirit as a contractor

    Pros

I worked for them during competitions in Orlando, FL. Most of the employees were very happy because they were in warm sunny weather on Disney property. That made everything easy, light, and fun.

    Cons

They are a bit disorganized and tend to over or under staff at certain times, but they always seem to pull it through.

    Advice to Management

Use previous years experience on when rushes take place, how long it will take to set up the store, how many people to staff, etc to maximize effective work.

I have been working at Varsity Spirit full-time

    Pros

Fortune 500 company and steady growing. Job security with plenty of opportunity for overtime during the busy season. Good people and a generally hostile free environment.

    Cons

Benefits decreasing. There is little opportunity for growth. Managers rarely leave and there are no bonuses or employee stock options. Low starting pay for most production jobs.

    Advice to Management

Employees, particularly the more success driven individuals, need recognition not only though monetary gain, but also through career advancement, more say in everyday processes, and even positive verbal recognition/feedback from senior management.

    Pros

    travel, met some cool people

    Cons

you put a lot of work in for minimum pay and management sucks. they pick favorites and its totally obvious. they pin people against each other and thrive off of the drama.

    Advice to Management

listen to employees, don't just do what is best for YOU. and PLEASE don't make it so obvious that you don't like some employees.
