Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

If you can tutor on your own, do that instead.

    Pros

-You have a lot of flexibility in setting your hours and deciding what to teach. -The in-lesson IT services are fantastic. -The employees at their call center are helpful and polite. -You can be picked up for the job even if you have very little experience (say because you're still a student),

    Cons

-The pay is very low—honestly it's insultingly low considering how much they charge the students and their families. You are also not paid for preparation time. -If some kid is upset that you politely declined to help them cheat on their homework, they can one-star you and tank your tutor rating. They can also leave an untruthful and hurtful comment about you visible for any students or parents on Varsity Tutors to see—those comments are apparently completely unmoderated. Overall, I can't say I got the impression that Varsity Tutors values the expertise or experience of their tutors. I would not recommend working for them unless you have no other options.

    not enough work

    Pros

seemed like opportunities were there on occasion, but not as much as I would like.

    Cons

There just wasn't enough offerings to make this job worthwhile. I only got informed once every few months and the pay was always very low.
