Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Wonderful Company to work for

    Pros

They do all the work as far as finding clients for you and handling the customer service end. You do need to contact the clients and possibly provide the materials for the session but many of the students have their own work that they want you to go over. My time so far has been very positive and you even get paid when a student cancels within 24 hours or doesn't show up. Other companies that I have worked for do not always provide payment for cancellations.

    Cons

Nothing really to complain about so far.

    Pros

    Cons

    - Compensation is a little low considering travel and preparation time (although VT pays better than many competitors) - Not much training

    Self awareness to positive growth

    Pros

This is a company that wants to be the best and actually puts the time, effort, and work into understanding how to do it in a way that promotes a positive experience for both clients and employees. There is always something new coming and it's so fun to watch the company grow!

    Cons

This is not a work from home job where it's on your own time. You are on a clock and expected to be as engaged as you would be while in an office.

Great company, but a lot of work.

    Pros

-$20/hr base pay is nice! -Minimum of 1.5 hours per session guarantees you're not wasting too much time driving around. -If you have to drive too far you get a gas bonus! -100% freedom in scheduling and teaching method; they really just send you clients and then you take it ifrom there

    Cons

-During the summer you don't get nearly as many clients -Most students want tutoring in the evening on weekdays so your evenings aren't free, AND it can be hard to schedule more students when they all want the same time period.
