I worked at Vedder Price full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Pay is decent
    - Manager was awesome
    - Autonomy
    - Staff got along
    - Decent benefits
    - Work-life balance
    - Feels like a small firm with a large firm structure

    Cons

    - Systems are outdated
    - Reluctant to change
    - Bonuses are not merit based

    Advice to Management

Please consider taking your employees' feed back seriously. Seems that the firm is really reluctant to change their processes and bring themselves into the 21st century. There were some positive changes, but it needs to move quicker.

"Secretarial Longevity - WOW. No Bereavement Time?"

I have been working at Vedder Price full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Large firm, but it feels more like family. Very friendly staff.
    - Secretarial longevity. Dozens have been here 20, 30, 40 years.
    - Most all attorneys are nice, save for a select few.
    - Decent pay, benefits and secretarial training.
    - Upgrades/changes to firm are currently in process. Remodeling, technology and some procedural changes (positive so far).

    Cons

    - NO BEREAVEMENT TIME - must use vacation or PTO.
    - Environment feels different than it did years ago. Not as lax - so many changes in staff.
    - Office morale decreasing due to uncertainty of future changes, secretarial usage.
    - Office morale decreased considerably when all receptionists & office support staff (many of whom were loyal to Vedder for 20+ years) were let go in order to bring in Ricoh workers to perform the very same tasks.
    - Sick & Vacation time are separate. Makes things difficult when issues come up unexpectedly and you can't borrow time from one or the other.

    Advice to Management

Please have compassion for the grieving and consider offering bereavement time - most other great law firms do. Please lump PTO and vacation time together.

I have been working at Vedder Price full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, livable decent pay, tones and attitudes are what you expect them to be coming from a highly ranked conservative law firm but add a dash of lax. Excited to grow and excel here.

    Cons

Time keeping is mundane but you have to do what you have to do! The workspace needs a refresh, which from what I hear, is already happening anyway!

    Advice to Management

    All is well thus far.

I have been working at Vedder Price full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good hours, fun people, not as cutthroat as most NY law firms

    Cons

The work is not as challenging as as other firms and HR does not do a good job managing some harmful personalities

    Advice to Management

Take employee concerns into account more

I worked at Vedder Price full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Supportive of business development; it really feels like one can make partner there; very transparent. Also, collegial environment (and not just in name only - the firm has initiatives to support that collegiality)

    Cons

BigLaw expectations without BigLaw resources/clients. It's tough to hit the hours requirement for some groups, for example, because the work doesn't flow as freely

    Advice to Management

Adjust hours requirements and expectations based on the group at issue; continue to support the firm's culture

    Pros

Some good staff. Some not so good people and attorneys. Management was good back in the day...

    Cons

Management is terrible. They allow people to make decisions that should not be making decisions.

    Pros

Nice People, great environment, great supervisor, HR is great, great benefits. Nothing bad to say except for below in the cons.

    Cons

Time Warp, caveman days as far as procedures. Paper everywhere

    Advice to Management

Please please look at all the paper around here,

    Pros

Vedder Price is a good name in the legal industry. Somewhat of a rigorous interview process, but for a good reason- good benefits, good location, competitive pay. HR is visible and responsive; they are thorough and selective. I find that they carry themselves professionally while being personable at all times, and they're good at that. I have met many people here who have had their positions for 10-30 years and still love coming to work. While there are employees who have been with the company for a long time, the firm is still expanding and there is room for new hires to grow.

    Cons

They are upgrading their bathrooms and conference rooms; some departments are getting shifted. They're installing some state-of-the-art conference rooms; it may take a few months.

    Advice to Management

<(I would honestly just go talk to my managers if I had "advice" for them; this is not for my managers, thank you)/>
The main reason people use glassdoor is to complain. This site functions as dumping grounds for disgruntled employees. Most of the time it has nothing to do with the company itself. Vedder Price is a great place to work. Come see for yourself.
