I worked at Veeco Instruments as a contractor

    Pros

Pay is decent. Some of the co-workers are ok. Industry should be a great company, however, due to management.......

    Cons

Terrible HR Department. Very volatile and poor management. Not sure why some of the management is still there with all the failures.

    Advice to Management

Doesn't matter. No one is listening anyway.

I worked at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Veeco Instruments provides a platform for employees to gain experiences in a unique niche industry. Employees are an integral part in the design, redesign, and build process.

    Cons

There is a lack in workplace culture that hurts the overall experience. Management to employee relations are very distant. The Human Resource efforts are a joke. This feeling is mutual throughout the company.

Very little opportunity for career growth and personal development.

    Advice to Management

Managers not only manage the business, but the people. The success of your employees drive the success of your business.

I worked at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary and bonuses are great when times are good.

    Cons

Layoffs, constant change in management, and restructuring of departments, unstable industry, orders can range from a few hundred units a year to 5 a year.

    Advice to Management

Develop a 5 year plan, staff accordingly and ride the ups and downs with contractors not full time employees. It's demoralizing to the employees to see management go on a hiring spree only to turn around and layoff full time employees months later.

Company executive management makes rash decisions when facing financial hurdles. Inflexible policies lead to employee dissatisfaction.

    Pros

    Flexible time, very supportive people.

    Cons

Strange management, over loaded tasks, unstable sales, poor benefits.

    Advice to Management

Need to define the responsibilities of program manager and project manager. There are too many managers in a project.

I worked at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The biggest driver working in Veeco is the Salary and bonus when given. A lot of the people there are great to work with. Learn alot about manufacturing and LED technology.

    Cons

The biggest con is trying to move around within the company. You are locked into a position and really cannot move. Projects can be like roller coaster rides. See a lot of people come and go.

    Pros

Above average salary, some of the folks are very intellectual and amazing teachers!

    Cons

    Very Political
Even though there are very smart people working with you, everyone holds their knowledge so you're learning curve is pretty flat.
There is no training program for a new hiree, and way too many contractors and they hold their knowledge so very difficult to learn
    Repetitive work

I worked at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Motivated employees, potential for growth.

    Cons

CEO is widely rumored to be an alcoholic. Much of the senior staff has recently left for other companies as a result.

    Advice to Management

Veeco needs a new CEO due to the substance abuse problem of John Peeler. This is a public company and the shareholder's interests are not being protected under these circumstances. Given that the man needs treatment, he should resign his post. This is a shameful situation that ought to be rectified.

    Pros

Good people in general. Most people work for technology related engineering without too much paper work.

    Cons

I agree with profound lack of vision and leadership at the engineering group.
Maybe CEO doesn't think it is important to get engineer's trust. because frequent laid off.
