I have been working at Ventana Medical (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company values the employees. There are numerous trainings and classes for personal and professional growth. The benefits are really amazing; both health and financial. The culture is excellent; people are willing to help each other.

    Cons

Some of the processes are still cumbersome, but that is being addressed and hopefully will improve.

    Advice to Management

Keep supporting employees' professional growth. Feeling valued makes such a difference in the quality of work output and job satisfaction.

I have been working at Ventana Medical full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, meaningful mission and passion to help all those afflicted with cancer, global corporation. Most genuinely happy to work there.

    Cons

Not much upward mobility or career ladder growth in Quality area. Opportunities outside this area depend on clinical or scientific background.

    Advice to Management

Leaders should be empowered to be true leaders. Employees should be rewarded for quality of work, contributions, not just for showing up.

I worked at Ventana Medical as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people here are amazing, and the culture is centered around innovation and communication between departments to foster this. Also, you are working towards a phenomenal cause.

    Cons

There are no real cons I can come up with. The location is gorgeous as well, driving home was a pleasure. I just wish I could have been employed as a full-time worker.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work, the social events (summits) happening at the end of the workday, or during, were also a wonderful treat, and an ideal opportunity to connect with the company's vision at large. Management here is fantastic.

I worked at Ventana Medical as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Exposure to some of the best works in cancer treatment development.

    Cons

At times a job description isn't as expected, but can be vastly different.

    Advice to Management

Use generic job descriptions as a platform to customize what your department needs, before posting the job. If this is not possible, at least share the actual reality of the job with chosen incumbents, that they may adjust their expectations and decide if they are able and willing to take on the responsibilities. It may come as a surprise, but some employee hopefuls are not just looking for a paycheck, but also gauging their career strategy to increase their exposure, experience and continue to improve their overall employment contribution and value.

I have been working at Ventana Medical as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Thoroughly organized with a simplified focus that helps all understand the goals and reach their individual objectives that merge into one focused, cohesive achievement. Phenomenal pay and growth ability. People are super nice and super smart! You'll love it here because you can really GROW!

    Cons

For some, it could be the drive to Ventana, although the views of the Santa Catalina Mountains could make up for it. Sometimes, the job you are hired for doesn't match the job you are ultimately executing.

    Advice to Management

Hire and pay for what you need, allowing room for growth in both types of individuals (employee and contractors) not just the organization as a whole.

    Pros

This is an effective team with a worthy mission. A culture of independence (rather than micro-management) is fostered. There are many company events of actual interest.

    Cons

Poorly defined pathway from contract worker to regular employee status. Undefined of uncommunicative guidelines to achieve this goal.

    Advice to Management

The proverbial "stick" is firing, which is perfectly reasonable. The "carrot" for a contract worker is the possibility of joining full staff as a regular employee. However, the carrot is fuzzy, like embarking on a journey of unknown distance, duration, and difficulty. If quantitative performance benchmarks existed, the achievement of which would result in hiring, directed competition would be fostered which would increase profitability beyond the payroll liability incurred. Set the bar as high as you want, and see who meets it; I dare you.
