It's getting worse - ready for the exodus

      Pros

Love the people, the people that actually do the work. Real inclusive environment, not too serious (stuffy) good friends

      Cons

Most everything else. CA has seriously kneecapped progress here and it is getting worse. The really strong people in the organization are starting to leave and seems like that is only going to accelerate. Sense of community / culture is starting to go away. Required processes are cumbersome, not followed by some and yet by others, no clear reason. PM (Product management) while getting better is still WAAAAY behind in talent compared to PM at most other companies. Lots of uncertainty that continues to grow and the number of people leaving isn't helping. New CA comp structure is seriously deficient and will prove very difficult to attract and retain serious talent. CA seems to be happy with "the middle of the road" in that category. The 3 for career opportunities is only because of potential to move within CA itself. The career opportunities at Veracode are limited overall.

      Parts are great parts not

      Pros

I enjoy the work here, we deliver services to customers that can really help them. Overall the work is pretty fulfilling and we have more quality people than not. Not very cliquey and the people know when to have fun and when to work

      Cons

I saw a couple other recent reviews that I have to agree. Our product management, and it's leadership is inept at best. There are a couple of good PM's, but overall there is a crazy elitist attitude that comes out of PM leadership. The leadership in the group has lost any kind of credibility with most of the groups throughout the company and it would be really helpful morale wise if senior management were take this problem seriously. The problem in PM along with a few is why there are a fairly large grouping of people I know that are halfway out the door. Everyone right now is doing business as if there isn't a lot of conversations about and actions happening that are bringing people close to walking out. Communication is lacking, clarity around what we are going to be in 6 months is lacking and pay is SERIOUSLY lacking. There are people getting offers that are 30-60% more than they are now making and I don't think Veracode has the self awareness to realize that once a few key people in each area start leaving the vacuum that starts up is going to be hard to stop.

The slide down the hill is starting...

      Pros

Company culture and the people are second to none - culture is starting to change a bit with CA acquisition. I say this in that integration is focused almost purely on sales and feels like others are being left out to try and force some attrition without having to actually layoff anyone. I love the company overall, again though that is mostly for the people. With CA some great things have happened though, 401 match, etc. They better start thinking about how to keep your people on board though. There is a TON of potential with collaboration with CA now, let's get this right and start filling some needs that our customers need.

      Cons

Where do we start - Product management (I have been at a number of organizations and have direct experience in product management) is about the worst that I have seen. Internally they really do not listen, they are above what anyone says and could care less about what is needed for customers. They definitely care more about what is going to look good in the immediate term for them and help themselves out. In the long term this is going to bite them, they are not looking out for the customer. This is clear in decisions to not invest in development of certain technologies, to move slowly in areas that our customers are demanding and to just avoid any real conversation internally about where their leadership is lacking. I would love to see them less concerned about walking out on stage to 24k magic and actually apply some of that 24k magic to the product. New technology - Veracode is in a special place to lead in certain markets and yet is just standing by and letting competitors run with the ball. Good luck guys, you are basically throwing an interception straight down the field into the defenses hands. Unlimited PTO - seriously, can people start realizing this is only a benefit to the company and not the employee. It takes liability off the company for accrued vacation and makes no incentive to actually allow an employee to take real time off. HR? Do they exist? Pay - decent, but there is far better

      It's not all smooth sailing

      Pros

Strong people culture, many have said this but it is true, the people (like most companies) are what make this place. You can get direct access to senior leadership and get 1x1's with just about anyone.

      Cons

Not moving fast enough - the "Path to Profitability" has put a serious dent in speed. The yearly strategic direction change in sales (focus accounts, key accounts, blah blah blah) never allows enough time for a particular methodology to actually take hold, gain some maturity and see if there are any benefits. Product management - this is the big one, they are the teeth that are broken off the gear that is keeping it from turning smoothly. There is little congruity between them and other groups. Almost no sense in where they decide to invest and where they don't. With the exception of a couple of the PM's the team should be sacked. We spend a lot of time telling customers when something is on roadmap, getting them involved, move down the road wth them only to have PM over and over come back and say they have moved something out of roadmap. This happens everywhere, but here it is with little to no communication, no consideration of where priorities should be. The group along with a couple of other reasons is the entire reason I left Veracode, there were infuriating. Another con - often I have had folks in senior management talk about others "as examples" but with their names and in ways they shouldn't. There is also deep political talk here from senior leadership to more junior people, in a way that there shouldn't be.

Not as positive as the past few "requested reviews" not all bad though

      Pros

As a company this is a company that works to hit their targets and does so consistently. People that are willing to work their collective butts off and ones that are really talented as well.

      Cons

So many, first if you didn't all the new positive reviews have come from people that have been here a year or less, or are blind to what this place has become. " Business as usual as we continue to knock our targets out of the park" from a marketing manager, well if that doesn't have the good ol' marketing spin to it then nothing does. Want to hear some cons from someone who actually does the work? 1) Management of customer expectations, solid delivery timelines on features from product management. This is one of the biggest, our management does a terrible job at providing any kind of backbone for the program managers to lean against for support when talking with customers about shortcomings of the product. Broken releases, features that don't make it in time and we are largely reactionary. 2) It's already been said, but HR is a mess, if they do come and attend a meeting or anything there isn't a reason why other than what seems like to observe us and see who might need to watched closer or something. They literally do nothing. Our HR should be renamed to "Haven't Reacted" because that is exactly what they have done to any complaints taken to them, any of the feedback others have given or any of the other issues come up. 3) Managers (so called) this was a place where people could look forward to growing into management positions, or being challenged and rewarded for their efforts. They would much rather hire halfwit hacks from the outside then promote anyone internally (with the exception of a few that have been, and surprise, they are much better managers than outside hires) - get it together, the leadership that was once shown here is gone, and what is left are a big percentage of managers that are lucky they are managing here where they can skate by and not really do anything. 4) Talk down, about people - has to stop, that's it, rampant across the entire company. Not good for morale, not good for anything 5) The biggest con is probably what is coming in a few weeks, depending what happens with Broadcom action we have a large amount of people that are all talking about leaving, once bonuses are paid, and any stock stuff is sorted out you can expect a number of people at all levels leaving. We are already seeing more people than ever leave and without any clear warning they are going to do so.
