I worked at Verisign as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

great subsidized food, gym, impactful work

    Cons

nepotism, old demographics, its a gentleman's club, Im sure the work is impactful but needs a change in business model and genuinely improve your overall diversity in demographics

    Advice to Management

HIRE YOUNG PEOPLE especially if they have been your interns, SHAKE up the entire institution

I worked at Verisign full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good gym, and close by washington dc, in reston.

    Cons

Terrible management, narrow focus, unclear goals, plans keep changing, everyone worried about their job so innovation is a word rather than an actual thing.

    Advice to Management

Fire those who pick fights, and consider the job as a retirement place

I worked at Verisign full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people- worked with a great group of individuals.
    Good cafeteria
    Great onsite gym

    Cons

Too many policies and no real benefits. Not really a technology company- works like a bank.

    Telecommuting is not allowed
Employees are expected to travel for work but are not allowed to stay back and use PTO- have to return immediately (another policy)
Arrival and departure times are monitored by HR - they run reports to see when someone comes in and leaves the building
    No innovation
CEO only worries about stock price and shareholders- not the people who work for him
Compensation used to be good but HR/CFO is gradually taking everything away (Bonus, stock etc).

    Advice to Management

Start trusting your employees, change the policies driven culture, and be open to innovation. If you don't make these changes, this company will never grow.

I worked at Verisign full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mid Size company with little to no competition in the market. Stable revenue and people stay on the average of 20 years.

    Cons

Everything needs to be approved by legal from marketing materials and contracts. In addition, the executive leadership team approves everything. The company is very risk adverse and they focus on the domain business and no so much on the other depts

    Advice to Management

The leadership is dysfunctional and it's starts with the CEO. Too many infighting and the employees are collateral damage

    Pros

The compensation and benefits are very good.

    Cons

The company is going through a transitional phase after selling the Authentication business to Symantec. They have decided to move all remaining jobs to Dulles, Virginia, regardless of whether they can find qualified people to fill them. Management also plans to support the remaining company with a fraction of the support staff, so many remaining people will be wearing multiple hats and have very broad responsibilities. There is also an issue with people being promoted to positions they are not qualified for, simply because they are in the right location.

    Advice to Management

Your actions this year have seriously damaged employee faith in upper management. If you are planning for the company to go forward, and not just getting positioned to sell the remaining parts, you have serious work to do gain any employee trust back.

    Pros

Good Pay and time off, and benefits - that's it.

    Cons

Slow to change, no direction, and no team meetings from manager. You are on your own in this company... Unprofessional overall but they do pay well.

    Advice to Management

    Go back to business school!

    Pros

The company is not going away anytime soon so you have a job for a while.
    Excellent location.
Good benefits at a low cost to employees.
Engineers who do the actual coding are good to work with.

    Cons

Micro management and no ability for a person to make a decision on their own. Resulting in a slow project time and bottle neck from management.
Too many layers making it more people to keep in the loop which again dis-empowers you from making a decision as well as slowing things down.
Not a collaborative culture. Favors throwing things over the wall to each other. Product lifecycles reflect this as well.
    Technology is old.
Managers routinely check up on employees to make sure they are working their hours and tracking of time is done in a digital timesheet.
Engineering management ties their own teams hands to do the right thing for the customer.
Lack of processes and the ones that are in place just done make sense.

    Advice to Management

Make more dramatic changes and the mid management level. They are killing what you are trying to build.
Rethink how you develop and bring a product to market.

    Pros

    Name recognition is very strong

    Cons

Clueless Management. Verisign is moving away from customer support towards a Web 2.0 based solutions. This encourages minimal staff, sales, and support.

    Advice to Management

Your web based migration for sales and support should work, and will reduce costs significantly.
